Dinner with my wife the Thursday before the Alabama game was very good. The place was bustling. With the wood floors and brick walls, be prepared for a noisy experience. Also the tables are pretty close, so the attentive wait staff is constantly moving and potentially bumping your chair on most round trips. Food was very good. My wife had... More

John Currence has come a long way since he served as a deckhand on a tugboat in the Gulf of Mexico. His first restaurant job was washing dishes at Bill Neal's Crook's Corner in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Later, he baked bread in an Italian restaurant, worked in a butcher shop, cut salmon and bluefish at a smokehouse and became... More

We had lunch here and our food was outstanding. The restaurant was so crowded because of game weekend, but our service never lacked. I had salmon and loved it. Bloody Mary's were excellent as well.

Stopped by on a Friday to make a reservation for Saturday night and they had several tables available at 7:00, 7:30 and 8:00 Saturday night. Made a reservation and gave them contact information and all was confirmed. Thirty minutes later received a phone call to say that they could not honor the reservation due to other reservations for those tables... More

I had the pleasure of eating at the City Grocery the night prior to the Ole Miss vs. Alabama game. Great energy, great food and excellent service. The famous shrimp and grits dinner is a must! Most enjoyable atmostphere.

City Grocery is a little pricey but the food is great and the atmosphere even better. Great place for a special date night. I would highly recommend it.

The best shrimp and grits in town! Has become more casual with time...but never fails with food or service.

Chef John Currence's great restaurant is located in The Square, the picturesque area of Oxford, MS. Conveniently located about a mile from campus, The Square has a variety of amazing gift shops, clothing stores and restaurants. I had a wonderful stew and house salad which went together great. My companion loved the Po'Boy! Lots to choose from. He has other... More

City Grocery was a dining experience. The ambience is wonderful, though a bit noisy. Service was exceptional and so was the food. Shrimp and grits is their signature dish and it did not disappoint. Good wine selection at reasonable prices. Treat yourself if you are in Oxford!

Friends and I ate at City Grocery on a busy Ole Miss football Saturday. Fortunately, we had a reservation!!! The whole town was packed in anticipation of the first Ole Miss home game of the season. I had the Grits and Grillades, my first time to even hear about this dish. Oh my! Cheese grits with a spicy cajun-y beef... More
