Buffalo Oysters? Definitely.

We ate here last weekend with a group of 8 and there was a salad choice that caught my eye: Buffalo oysters. It's known the old Flapjack loves spicy food and this certainly did not disappoint. Fried oysters in Buffalo sauce on a bed of chopped lettuce laced with garlic and a generous helping of... read more

Had a great dinner here on a busy Friday night. Be sure to have a reservation. Tables are close together and it is loud so be prepared for that. Varied menu and wine selections. The shrimp and grits was made with spicy cheese grits and beats any I have had even in the low country of SC.

A friend recommended this restaurant to us as we were passing through and just spending the night. We were warmly greeted. My husband started with the special, black-eyed pea soup with collard greens and andouille sausage, and cornbread croutons. It was sooooo good, a bit of a kick and wonderful on a cold night. I enjoyed the roasted winter vegetables... More

I am finding words adequate enough to describe the food, service, and experience that is City Grocery. A wonderful, fresh salad, shrimp and grits that were hands down the best I've ever eaten, and Bananas Foster bread pudding-wow! If you are ever in Oxford, or within driving distance-get here and eat!

There are many great places to dine in Oxford and this is one of the best. You will enjoy some of the most unusual dishes, most with a Southern flair.

Overpriced. I was surprised, they used paper as a table cloth. The quality of food was poor. Portions were small. Peking duck was underdone, catfish was terribly salty.

If you get a chance to visit Oxford, you should most definitely try City Grocery. Their signature dish is Shrimp and Grits, which is great. But their other food is delicious, too, and not dishes that you can get everywhere. They are very unusual and creative. If you want a less expensive taste of their food, try their lunch menu.... I've frequently read reviews of City Grocery in local Memphis and southern magazines, but I hadn't been there. We had a lovely, sunny Saturday so we took a drive to Oxford and called ahead for a lunch reservation on our way. The oysters gratin and shrimp with cheese grits were delicious. The restaurant lived up to everything I'd ever heard... More

Take good local ingredients. Put them together with a bit of spice and verve. Voila. Excellent meal follows. Deviled eggs with bacon. Superb. Salad with good greens, heirloom tomatoes, fried oyepsters. Excellent. Very good wines by the glass. Easy to see why the chef has been nominated for James Beard awards.

My family of seven ate lunch here on Saturday. Service rather slow but place was packed. Tables are jammed up next to each other. Wood floors and brick walls make the place very noisy.
