A fun place to stop

We stopped for lunch on our way from Memphis to Tupelo after seeing it featured by Anthony Bordain. This was the day after a big ice/snow event and was still pretty cold. It was colder inside the lounge than outside ! I mention this because although our food was tasty, it was not very warm. They... read more

The Lamar Lounge has a sign outside that reads BAR. The surprising thing is that, unlike other bars in Oxford, this BAR serves great food and has very good servers who know their stuff. Last evening [Friday] we went the Lamar Lounge because students were back in town and parking and a decent table would be hard to get around... More

it appears to be a bar scene, and it has live music later in the evenings. Its's a place to go when you want to eat put cooked meats and southern style sides. The pork (vinegar based barbecue which is not typical in this area, south of Memphis influences), brisket and other beef is always good. They know how to... More

I come from North Carolina, so my standards for whole hog barbecue are high, but this place met and exceeded them. The pulled pork is sauced just right with a vinegary-peppery mix that is true to America's old-time barbecue tradition. The housemade sausage and the brisket are good, too, and I'm told they do a good hamburger, but when you... More

Baked beans an BBQ are great! It's a cool place to have a drink and dinner with friends. The managerial staff is friendly and aims to please. Reasonably priced and service is usually very quick.

We went this past Saturday night after the crazy, wild Ole Miss-Alabama football game; because there was no live music at that point and because so many folks were still in The Grove or downtown on the Square, we were able to get in without a wait, though it was still essentially full. Neat retro lounge look to it, our... More

I'm a big John Currence fan and Snackbar would likely be my last meal, but Lamar Lounge was a let down for me. I went with a friend after an Ole Miss game and I ordered the whole hog bbq. When it arrived it was cold and not very good. The cornbread was solid and the hushpuppies were maybe the... More

My husband and I have been here for dinner twice- both times were very good. The first time we went I got the smoked turkey club with a side salad. The sandwich was pretty good, until I took a bite of my husbands chili cheese burger. Oh MY goodness. That dang burger was so good, and so cheap. I have... More
