Very good but not as good as it could be

My wife and I came for dinner on a Tuesday evening; only a few of the many tables were full. My wife ordered pan fried catfish breaded with corn meal, served over with white cheddar grits and topped with a ham/crawfish/tomato ragou. It was very tasty, but she had one small complaint - the... read more

McEwens is just amazing. First of all, it is quiet and a wonderful place to go if you really want to visit with your dining companion. We are frequent lunch diners, where we especially like the salmon entree, the farmer's plate and the hamburger. It may be the best hamburger in Oxford. We also enjoy going around 5 pm and... More

We hosted a graduation dinner for our son here. Although the restaurant was busy, we were well take care of. The atmosphere is lovely. The food was excellent. If we are back in Oxford again, we will definitely be going back to McEwen's.

McKewen's is a beautiful restaurant, providing a comfortable dining environment. Have been there several times and always had an enjoyable time and meals. This time had Buttermilk Fried Oysters with Spicy Mustard Plum Sauce, Mignonette as a starter. The oysters were served on their shells, which was a great presentation. The main was wild caught salmon with a sweet sauce,... More

Had dinner with a couple who live part time in Oxford and the Summers in North Carolina. I mentioned to them that the mussels were good during one of our prior visits to McEven's. Our dining companion ordered the appetizer portion [about 18 mussels] and 6 arrived dead [closed, not open]. We mentioned this to the server and asked if... More

McEwen's continues to offer a variety of dishes having a European influence - with a touch of the South. On this visit, I started with steamed mussels in red wine sauce, which were very good, but not the best I ever had. Next came pork osso bucco, which was very, very good. Traditionally, osso bucco is made with a veal... More

Oxford does not lack for very good restaurants, and quite frankly, we have not had a bad meal during our visits at many of the local restaurants. McEwens though has become one of our favorites and a must visit when in town. The interior doesn't stand out from some of the other nicer restaurants, but the vibe just feels more... More

Varied menu with some good seafood options. Service was prompt and the atmosphere is nice. Be sure to have a reservation on the weekend and be prepared to have to search for parking on the square and possibly walk a bit to get there.

This is one of the best places to eat in Oxford, Mississippi. The tea is good, the hamburger is delicious, the homemade salad dressing is worth the visit! We will be back. The Lowreys
