Very good but not as good as it could be

My wife and I came for dinner on a Tuesday evening; only a few of the many tables were full. My wife ordered pan fried catfish breaded with corn meal, served over with white cheddar grits and topped with a ham/crawfish/tomato ragou. It was very tasty, but she had one small complaint - the... read more

Had dinner with a couple who live part time in Oxford and the Summers in North Carolina. I mentioned to them that the mussels were good during one of our prior visits to McEven's. Our dining companion ordered the appetizer portion [about 18 mussels] and 6 arrived dead [closed, not open]. We mentioned this to the server and asked if... More

McEwen's continues to offer a variety of dishes having a European influence - with a touch of the South. On this visit, I started with steamed mussels in red wine sauce, which were very good, but not the best I ever had. Next came pork osso bucco, which was very, very good. Traditionally, osso bucco is made with a veal... More

Oxford does not lack for very good restaurants, and quite frankly, we have not had a bad meal during our visits at many of the local restaurants. McEwens though has become one of our favorites and a must visit when in town. The interior doesn't stand out from some of the other nicer restaurants, but the vibe just feels more... More

Varied menu with some good seafood options. Service was prompt and the atmosphere is nice. Be sure to have a reservation on the weekend and be prepared to have to search for parking on the square and possibly walk a bit to get there.

This is one of the best places to eat in Oxford, Mississippi. The tea is good, the hamburger is delicious, the homemade salad dressing is worth the visit! We will be back. The Lowreys

My coworker and I ate dinner at McEwen's Oxford on Feb. 3, 2015. The restaurant had a few tables filled when we arrived. Met at the door with, "do you have reservations?". There were several more tables filled when we left. I ordered BBQ duck enchiladas (appetizer) and wild mushroom salad. The salad was WonderfuL. However, the enchiladas were a... More

nicely decorated restaurant with three tables filled when we arrived. Ordered appetizers and salads. Took almost an hour to get the appetizer. It was Good tasting but COLD. Took dessert to go (banana pie) that I took one bite of and then threw the $7 piece of pie in the trash.

This is touted to be in the group of the "better and pricier" restaurants in Oxford. It is both of those and provides the town with some variety, though each play on a local style of Southern Gourmet cooking. Figure $40-$50 a plate with drinks. If you are not too hungry try a couple of appetizers. We had the oysters, a... More
