Being from the south I have had some very good fried chicken, most has been home cooked. The country store is one of those places everyone needs to try. It has great atmosphere and good food.

On Food Network, Alton Brown proclaimed Old Country Store's fried chicken "the best," so we had to stop there on our trek through Mississippi. We weren't disappointed. The buffet is a foodie's delight. It includes wonderful vegetables, "the best" fried chicken (it really is the best), fried catfish, fried pork chops, salad, macaroni and cheese, corn on the cob, yams—you name... More

Arthur Davis operates his Old Country Store in a 135-year-old building in Lorman Mississippi, and advertises that he has "the best fried chicken in the world." He fries it in an iron skillet on an ordinary kitchen range in his one-man kitchen. And, I have never met anyone who would dispute that it is, indeed, the best in the world.

Growing up in the Midwest, our family had a lovely old southern woman who helped my parents raise their six children. It has been fifty years since I tasted her marvelous southern chicken. Today, was the first time in five plus decades that I tasted the same excellent fried chicken of my childhood. Cooked cabbage, stewed okra with tomatoes, black... More

Coming from France, I heard about this Magic place by my hosts and decided to come to have the best fried chicken and buffet. The food is very good like your Grandma may cook it, the buffet is diverse, Mr D's is very welcoming, may sing you a song and his staff is helpful and very nice. Thanks for this... More

This stop was unmissable on our c2c RoadTrip! The best array of wonderful southern dishes we'd had so far. Eat it in a vintage setting, surrounded by weird objects left from a previous shop on the premises. And the patron will come and sing at your table if you're lucky! Really friendly and unique place.

This place is great! Old fashioned, the way it used to be Home Cooking. The Fried Chicken is the SHOWPIECE of their food. Go hungry and skip supper......it's that good!

Better be hungry when stopping here. No choice but the buffet (was $15.99 in July). Top feature is their fried chicken, but pork chops and some other meats available, two kinds of greens, and so much else, all good. Owner made a point of stopping by the tables and even graciously took pictures with guests if asked. Shelves of all... More
