Good Tamales

I stopped here for lunch. We got there at 11:15, which was a very good time, because we were immediately seated. By 11:45, it filled up. I ordered the three tamales. They we very good. For lunch I had the Vivian Salad. It was very fresh and the grilled chicken was good too. Service was quick.

I had lunch at Hal and Mal's Monday, July 20, 2015. The restaurant has new management, and it is very good management. I recently had some medical problems, and on July 9, 2015, I had to have all of my teeth pulled. Hal and Mal's will go out of their way to puree' my food so that I can still... More

The retro-diner atmosphere is great--very fun and playful. Soup of the day is an absolute must, delicious and creative recipes. We had a shrimp, dill, and cucumber soup (sounds weird but tasted wonderful), spicy pimento grilled cheese, and the famous catfish.

I ate here on a Wednesday night with several work buddies. The atmosphere is very layed back, and when we were there, there was a great band playing VERY LOUD BLUES MUSIC WITH HORNS!!!! It was too loud for most of us to enjoy in the main part of the restaurant, so we sat in a back room. The place... More

Kinda hard to find, but well worth the hunt. Seafood Bisque is by far the BEST I've ever had! Introduced to Comeback sauce for the first time. Had to go buy some at the grocery store to take home. Only disappointment was the Red Beans and Rice. It was very dry and had no seasoning.

we enjoyed the blues live music band, but took a lot of time for food to arrive to table after ordering...we are glad we tried this place for dinner, but slow service make us hesitant to return...the food was good, but nothing exceptional...located in an okay part of town, but some people right outside of restaurant door asking for money.

We had a wonderful time at Hal & Mal's - make sure to visit it when you're in Jackson. We were tipped off by The New York Times's 36 Hours in Jackson. We didn't realize it was Blue Monday when we showed up. It's really an evening for the local blues club. But we were made to feel welcome by... More

In Jackson for business and stopped in for a few beers and dinner. I thought the place had a lot of character. Lots of photos of cool blues people and famous Mississippians on the walls. Definitely come in for a beer at least. They have a good selection and the service in my opinion left nothing to be desired. Really... More

We went to this place because one of our travel companions' names is Mal. The food was just ok. The service was not memorable in a good or bad way. If you'd like to see what this place looks likes: youtu.be/-xjnngywU4M

Stumbled across Hal & Mal's on a Saturday lunch time whilst we were driving down to New Orleans. And we managed to stumble across their first Brunch session. Lovely staff, fab food (the burger was great!) and nice atmosphere. We sat inside, but there was a little outside terrace which looked very cute. Got some great recommendations for New Orleans...
