great place to stop before the MS blues half marathon

My friend and I were in town to run the Mississippi Blues half marathon and the race packet mentioned this place. It's a little bar/blues joint with some tables sort of close to downtown. Service was okay, gumbo was fantastic, fries were awesome, salad was fresh, beer was cold. They offer a good... read more

I wanted to get a great review out for this unique place in Jackson, MS. We called with the need for a large group coming from all over the US to run the MS Blues Marathon. Hal and Mals gladly worked with us and provided us a great back room to have our meet up. The food was good, the... More

This was some great food with s great environment for a date night with my hubby before our new baby came. I would say this isn't really a kid friendly environment though. Good food and hubby enjoyed their unique beer selections.

It was blues night. The music was so so but great to catch up with a friend. The food was average. I had a burger, nothing extraordinary. It is a well thought of place so I would recommend a visit.

Hal and Mal's is known for 'Blue Monday' and we stopped in for some of the best authentic lived delta blues anywhere. Music goes from about 8-11:30 PM and after the featured performance, anybody and everybody is invited to come forward to sing or play. This is where the locals come, while tourists are welcomed by everybody too. There's a... More

This stop is a must do in Jackson. Located in downtown Jackson in the old railroad area. Southern food at it is finest along with live music make this a unique experience.

i was with a small group of people and this was a great way to cap off a day of intense meetings. the atmosphere is that of a local pub. a bit gritty, but that's ok. The staff was accommodating to get tables together for us and the waitress was very helpful in our beverage choices and food. the menu... More

I had lunch at Hal and Mal's Monday, July 20, 2015. The restaurant has new management, and it is very good management. I recently had some medical problems, and on July 9, 2015, I had to have all of my teeth pulled. Hal and Mal's will go out of their way to puree' my food so that I can still... More

The retro-diner atmosphere is great--very fun and playful. Soup of the day is an absolute must, delicious and creative recipes. We had a shrimp, dill, and cucumber soup (sounds weird but tasted wonderful), spicy pimento grilled cheese, and the famous catfish.

I stopped here for lunch. We got there at 11:15, which was a very good time, because we were immediately seated. By 11:45, it filled up. I ordered the three tamales. They we very good. For lunch I had the Vivian Salad. It was very fresh and the grilled chicken was good too. Service was quick.
