Lunch

Things have changed but stayed the same. Good lunch. Reasonable soup and salad. Worth stopping and checking it out. Better than fast food.

This was a wonderful place with great servers and the best coffee my husband and I have had eating out in recent memory. I loved my bowl of white bean chicken chili . My husband had a large sunday because he had already eaten. We will go there everytime we are on the North Shore !!!

Was going to stop at Bettys Pies but it wasn't open, saw reviews for this place so decided to turn around. Both my boyfriend and I were amazed by how great the food was. There was fresh ingredients, large portions and a great server (amanda). We will most definitely be telling people about this little café in two harbors!

Had the pleasure of partaking of the Bean's Easter Brunch this past week: Jason truly outdid himself, once again! Presentation was as scrumptious as the buffet, resplendent with (among others) Butternut Squash Bisque, Asparagus Eggs Benedict Quiche, Caramel Pecan French Toast, and Carved Maple Glazed Ham... One of the few times throughout the year that reservations were recommended, as they... More

I drove up a month ago to spend a quiet month in Grand Marais during the last cold days of a long winter. Never expecting much when eating out up "north," I stopped for breakfast in late February and ordered a "Thunder Bay" omelet with potatoes and toast and out came this awesome fluffy round omelet that had been finished... We had a walleye sandwich delivered from Vanilla Bean to us at Castle Danger taproom on a Friday night. It was excellently made, and despite being delivery and transported through the cold the sandwich held up well. It was a bit pricey when added in the delivery fee, but getting the sandwich, home fries and adding a side salad was... More

My girlfriend and I stopped in for breakfast just before the "John Beargrease" races were to start. I think our waitress really didn't want to be there! She never brought us coffee refills, the table beside us was waited on hand and foot by anther waitress and when our breakfast finally came, it was "cold as ice". What a disaster,... More

Hello Kim! I'm very disappointed to read about your visit during the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon. During my time in the dining room those 4 days, I heard nothing but compliments. I'm hoping it was an isolated incident. Please let me know the next time you're visiting because I'd like you to give us another try. jason@thevanillabean.com More

Vanilla Bean Café is a charming diner. Server was very friendly and service was great. Food was as good as we've heard. Hash browns cooked perfect and my wife's crepes were, in her words, "wonderful".

Eating out with a group of birders can be a challenge, esp with the varied tastes of folks. Our visit to the Vanilla Bean was excellent, with delicious home-made soup and breads. The restaurant was very busy but the meals all arrived promptly and were delicious- a real change from "slaw or salad" type restaurants. We would certainly go back.
