Quite good but not spectacular

My wife and I had been passing by Betty's for most of 40 years driving between Thunder Bay and Duluth and finally stopped in for lunch. My wife had the chicken salad sandwich and 5 layer chocolate pie which were pretty good but the bread was a bit dry. I had my first pastie with soup and then... read more

Looking for comfort food on the North Shore? Betty has you covered. They serve burgers, sandwiches (cold or hot open faced with a side of mashed potatoes and gravy), a couple of salads and flat breads, and pasties (pronounced pass tees, hot dough baked with a choice of fillings like potatoes meat and veggies). You can finish off your meal... More

Betty not only makes delicious pie...the food is fantastic. The bread is amazing. The food is old fashioned, homemade, hit the spot good. So yummy! The pie is to die for. Waitstaff is friendly and attentive. A must stop when up on the north shore. Off season means no wait. :) LOVE this place.

The first time I went here was in May 2009 when seven friends and I rode road bicycles from the Iowa state line to the Canadian border, averaging 82 miles a day. This was our little lunch stop on the second to last day. The food here was good with great pies. I've been back here several times since and... More

Betty's Pies reputation is known far and wide. When people hear that you are heading to the North Shore, they tell you to make sure you stop by Betty's Pies. Busy, busy place, but worth the wait.

By far the best breakfast, best pie, and best 50's diner type atmosphere. If you're reading this, chances are you've never heard of Betty's Pies and probably aren't from Minnesota. Do yourself a favor and get some breakfast here.

What a cute little place to stop on the way up the shores of MN. It's so cute and cozy and the pies are out of this world. Hubby had the pie milk shake...OMG!!! It was really enough for 2-3 people. We sat in the front window and could see out over the lake. It's worth the drive for Betty's... More

We stopped here on a Monday during the holidays. It was very busy, and the line for the bathroom was never ending. We had lunch items, and the food was slow to come out, and just average. The waitress was polite and very nice. We shared two kinds of pie, the coconut crème pie, and a strawberry rhubarb.

They do pie right. We had crunch topping Great Lakes and blackberry peach, warmed up with ice cream. Yum. Probably going to have to come back tomorrow for the five layer chocolate. Nice lake view, cheerful and efficient service, served up with good coffee in a substantial mug. What's not to love?

Pie from a can. Go to the Rustic for pie. Very Minnesota average. No local ingredients. More or a rest stop than place to dine. Could be great, but it isn't.
