Cozy place

Food is fabulous, service great. Very unique cozy place. It's a little cramped and somewhat noisey, but worth the wait and crowded condition. If it's nice out there is outside seating. We usually eat a steak with all the trimmings. There is a full service bar as well.

We met 3 other couples for cocktails and dinner at Phil's Tara Hideaway. What a cozy place, kind of like a log cabin. Our waitress Terri was great! I had prime rib that was truly delicious! My husband thoroughly enjoyed his walleye. The salads and sides were just the right size. And the stout chocolate cake was true decadence (shared... More

A great choice in Stillwater. Great higher quality choices. Up the hill from downtown Stillwater. It gets very busy quickly and is small inside but cozy.

Have been here a number of times and the food never disappoints. Usually have the Tara steak (tender and flavorful, especially with the onions and Gorgonzola cream on the side). Friend has the stuffed trout and could not stop raving about it...best fish ever! Lamb shank was large and so good. Great ambiance.

My wife and I love this place. The atmosphere is warm and comfortable. The lighting is perfectly moody. The log construction and stone accents are beautiful. And the food is creative and perfectly prepared. It's also a great value. It's no wonder the place is always packed!

I have written reviews of places I have been and somehow forgot to write a review for my favorite restaurant in town. I go to Tara at least 2-3 times a month and love the food! My mom and I relish every visit! They have wonderful fillets...far better than most nice steak houses. I love the spanikopeta, greek salad and... More

We came back here with friends on a week night. It was crowded, as usual. The food is great and the service is excellent. The main problem for us is the noise: it is very loud. And they pack in the tables so there is very little wiggle room. All in all its a fun evening and we'll continue to... More

I've seen some criticism of Phil's but you have to know the "system." They do not take reservations because they do not need to. The restaurant building is an old pine log building, which has been a little more exposed recently (less of a "hideaway") due to TH 36 being cut down in elevation for the new bridge approach. They... Believe they set this up as "Fine Dining". Been there several times over the years and the last time was disappointing as we met people from Wisconsin. The place was very crowded. We got there early so didn't need reservations. Placed filled very fast so we thought we were in for a special evening. But it was so noisy here... More

Chose this restaurant to introduce my friend to a Minnesota delicacy - fried cheese curds. Unfortunately, even though the friendly lunchtime waitress told us these were a specialty of Phil's Tara Hideaway, the cheese curds were tough and chewy, not tender and delicate as those I have had in the past. The Greek Salad was fine, but not special compared... More
