Good Mediterranean food choices, very reasonable prices

I offered to take my 11 year old grandson out to lunch while I was visiting his family in St. Paul. He said he wanted to go to the Shish Cafe on Grand Avenue. The restaurant is small and not fancy, though they have some interesting art objects as decor. A large choice of Mediterranean dishes is... read more

This was my first time to try a Mediterranean restaurant. They have excellent selection of food for all meals. Great and prompt service. I tried the Shish Maza Mix with a side of chicken shawarma. Both were very good and I was able to try many different things at once. Will definitely stop by again when we are in the... More

My (14-year old visiting) granddaughter and I were on a mission to try as many different ethnic foods as possible during her recent visit and made a wonderful decision in choosing Shish as one of our stops. We ordered the meze platter along with chicken shawarma and spinach pies in an attempt to try as many new dishes as possible.... More

Not what I expected for a Middle Eastern establishment- the salad I that accompanied my moussaka had (what tasted like) bottled salad dressing and the tomatoes were (already) the cardboard winter variety that would best be left out completely. The moussaka was lukewarm and obviously had been sitting in the pan for awhile. Husband's Mediterranean grilled chicken breast was flat-tasting... More

Not the kind of place that you go to be served. Food makes up for everything though! Being from the Middle East myself I do love the food. So worth a try!

Being Greek I can say that the food here is quite good and the price is very reasonable. You order your food at the counter and then find a table and wait for your food to be brought out to you. Our table shared the meze platter of pita bread, hummus, baba ganoush, tabouleh, and feta cheese. One person had... More

We had a very good breakfast here of omlettes and their house coffee. Both were excellent. The omlettes were large, tasty and filled with fresh vegetables. Their house turkey sausage was grilled to perfection and delicious. Coffee was plentiful and rich, dark and flavorful. Our one complaint was that the dishes were brought out "piecemeal," so that my partner was... More

This was my second visit for breakfast. I ordered Turkish coffee medium sweet as I waited for the second in our party to arrive. There must have been some problem, because even though I was the only one there (it was shortly after opening) it took more than 15 minutes before it arrived. It was very good, but not as... More

The food served at this restaurant was so tasty we ate here twice on our recent visit to St Paul for my daughter's college orientation at Macalester. The food was tasty, served relatively quickly (its always crowded during these big school events) and reasonably priced. They had outdoor sidewalk seating which was nice too. For the first time there -... More
