Cask wines, excellent. Wines by the glass and bottle that are a great value. Fantastic pizzas. Embrace your Sicilian and leave the tomato sauce behind. Garlic & basil. Only thing lacking was a meat besides pepperoni and Canadian bacon. You would think this is Minnesota! Music by local artists stop in and enjoy.

Had a wonderful apple fritter and steamer with my kids while listening to a great old time music jam on Saturday morning.

Environment & mood more like a college-town bar being led by college dropouts who didn't want to leave the college life. Funky atmosphere, with menu via colored chalk on chalkboard. Rough-cut wood floors and trip, very warehouse-retro. Would have liked to be there for the open-stage music. The list of wines-by-the-glass was original enough to be worthy of some attention.... On recommendation by staff at Christos in Union Depot (St. Paul, MN), I walked to the Black Dog for 2 meals to go. I was greeted delightfully by Maria K. Charming, she assisted this first-time patron. I ordered a chicken salad, a bagel w/lox and cream cheese, and 2 beverages - one root beer, and one latte. That all went... More

Participated in a Meet Up for Cribbage players. Had their Cuban Sandwich. It looked small, but it sure was tasty and was filling enough. I would definitely go back for another!

Near the St. Paul Farmer's Market is a charming cafe that offers up a daily happy hour serving premium pints for $3. The menu is on a blackboard offering everything from a few breakfast specials to pizza and sandwiches. There's a few tables outside and it's on a quiet street. Interesting mix of bohemians and middle-aged garden lady types. Lovely... More

This is a funky coffee shop across the street from the Farmer's Market in Lowertown Saint Paul. The artsy decor is cool, and the coffee is good. However, the food is a bit overpriced and I noticed on my last visit that the floors were very dirty. There was a lot of dust and dirt caked under the counter where... More

I drop by when I am in downtown St Paul. Loved the area, they are building it up. The light rail will help a lot. Nice place to drink coffee in the afternoon and look out at the snowpr read a book. I really like the coffee.

The wonderul atmosphere, coupled with very good food, along with the fact that it is one of the few options for a weekend lunch in Downtown St. Paul, makes this an excellent choice. The Black Dog is on the main floor of an historic warehouse building, built when railroads were expanding westward at a frantic pace. The space has lots... More
