Participated in a Meet Up for Cribbage players. Had their Cuban Sandwich. It looked small, but it sure was tasty and was filling enough. I would definitely go back for another!

Near the St. Paul Farmer's Market is a charming cafe that offers up a daily happy hour serving premium pints for $3. The menu is on a blackboard offering everything from a few breakfast specials to pizza and sandwiches. There's a few tables outside and it's on a quiet street. Interesting mix of bohemians and middle-aged garden lady types. Lovely... More

This is a funky coffee shop across the street from the Farmer's Market in Lowertown Saint Paul. The artsy decor is cool, and the coffee is good. However, the food is a bit overpriced and I noticed on my last visit that the floors were very dirty. There was a lot of dust and dirt caked under the counter where... More

I drop by when I am in downtown St Paul. Loved the area, they are building it up. The light rail will help a lot. Nice place to drink coffee in the afternoon and look out at the snowpr read a book. I really like the coffee.

The wonderul atmosphere, coupled with very good food, along with the fact that it is one of the few options for a weekend lunch in Downtown St. Paul, makes this an excellent choice. The Black Dog is on the main floor of an historic warehouse building, built when railroads were expanding westward at a frantic pace. The space has lots... More

Went in for a quick burger and beer. The burgers were half-pounders and it came with a large portion of fries. We also thought we would enjoy an order of fried green beans before the meal arrived. Poor idea because of again the large portion. The food was good and an outstanding selection of brews. Would recommend and will visit... More

After finding our first two choices for a late lunch closed, we walked into Black Dog and reluctantly ordered some food. We didn't expect much because there were quite a few people sitting at random tables, but no one seemed to be eating. Our food arrived quickly and we were pleasantly surprised--the hummus plate, Cuban sandwich, and a basil/artichoke/pepperoni pizza... More

Grabbed a cup of coffee and a sweet treat with a friend and found the coffee to be pretty good and the turnover to be quite tasty. The shop has live music and is pretty typical of a coffee shop. The music on the night I visited was an interesting mix of Czech-Slovak traditional music mashed up with American Bluegrass... More

If you care about the vibe of a coffee house (I do)...cement floors...industrial looking..wood tables...next to the Zen center than this is the place. Here's the rub though...their coffee is not that great. With so many great coffee roasters in the midwest (Like Kickapoo) they should find one because their coffee is just mundane. It's doesn't match the vibe of... More

Black Dog achors the corner of a historic artists co-op, and the vibe is defintely bohemian. Great spot for avant agrde jazz, and really awesome sandwiches and soups - prced just right for the clientelle. Great spot to read, write, or just people watch.
