Love the building, Really like the food, hate the darkness

My wife and I along with another couple went to Heartland on Friday evening. It was the 1st time for our friends but our 5th time to Heartland. We had 7:30 reservations and were seated almost immediately. We had a nice window overlooking the Farmer's Market that had Christmas Trees for sale so... read more

I was there at Xmas time, so the atmosphere was wonderful. The food was very tasty and looked amazing. I really enjoyed this place and all the staff working hard whilst being very attentive and pleasant.

Our appitizer was small but wonderful. A cracker with sauce that was so good I wanted to lick the plate. Our next course was spicy cheddar fritters with cucumber red pepper and tomato aioli and again I wanted to lick my plate it was wonderful. I couldn't wait for our next course of Herb mezzelune with leek mousse and carrot... More

A quiet Sunday evening spent celebrating our daughter's engagement brought us to the perfect location, that is, Heartland Restaurant. Phillipe is an outstanding server, giving attention to every detail and every need. We truly enjoyed the seasonal, locally-sourced food, preparation, presentation and the ambiance. Even the vodka was local! Get there!

It's been a long time since I have been to a place that so thoroughly missed on every point. Service was slow, chef's attempts at creativity ill-advised & the execution undercooked & meager. We were a group of friends seated in the flow of things yet inexplicably ignored. We must have waited 40 minutes to place orders & that only... More

When Heartland was located on St. Clair Ave., near Macalester College, we dined there on numerous occasions. It was always very good. A small cozy bistro, with good service and interesting locally sourced menus. However, something terrible must have happened when they moved to downtown St. Paul. Our dinner here recently was the opposite of what Heartland once was. The... More

Creative flavorful preparations filled the menu which seems to change on a regular basis. We opted for the "Fauna" 3 course set menu plus a couple side veges. The first was a Cisco in a red wine reduction with fresh greens. Excellent. The second was slices of grilled beef with a crisp potato pancake and grilled leeks. For desert was... More

Worth paying the money as these are meals you don't make at home. I love that it is local and everything is so fresh but the waitress did not have to tell us at each course or each description of food that it was local. Be prepared for the bartender wanting freedom in his interpretation of what you order. Again,... More

I'd give Heartland an Excellent rating, except my wife's pork chop was a little dry. Other than that, this restaurant is a culinary fine dining experience. I realized this early in the dinner. I ordered a half bottle of 2007 Scacciadiavoli Sagrantino Montefalco, an Italian DOCG red wine, at the start of the meal. (One of my party of three... More

Fresh and delicious from start to finish. Every bite was scrumptious. The menu changes based on what's available and what's in season. The night we went, the fish got high marks, so did the pork chop ... and the beef tongue appetizer. Wine selections (with help from our server) were perfect. Just enough attention by the wait staff but never... More
