First started going there a few years ago...always good food, friendly staff. It is a challenge go up those stairs in the winter and parking downtown is a challenge everywhere. Otherwise would recommend to anyone staying downtown or working downtown..can't go wrong:-)

They have several burgers to choose from which are very good but I LOVE the breaded fish sandwich. It is huge and so flakey with a wonderful beer batter coating. I eat here every time I am in town. I do prefer the downtown restaurant better.

A variety of burgers occupy the menu of this hole-in-the wall bar in downtown. Located above the more expensive (and not as tasty) City Cafe, Newts is much more casual. I've grown to love the Marvin Burger, with "spicy" mayo as well as the Dave (?) with a fried egg on top. Others include the "Fatty Melt" a patty melt... More

The service was very prompt. We ordered burgers and they were made to order. We were served quickly and our burgers were really good. This restaurant was recommended to us and we were happy with the food and service.

Went for afternoon lunch. Waited at a dirty table, which never did get cleaned. Service was slow. While waiting, noticed many dirty tables waiting to be cleaned. Actually restaurant was not very clean at all. Besides old food on tables, also in the bar area. Waiter took order, waited for a bit. Food was not what we ordered. Hamburger that... More

I think they're famous for burgers, but I had the fish sandwich. It was awesome! The place is a little pricey, but I think that is because of it's location so close to Mayo. Overall, good atmosphere & great food.

I am making this review based on very little experience at this restaurant, but I ordered one of their half-pound burgers and it was fantastic. That is the only time I ate food from Newt's, but when I get back to Rochester I will definitely try to get another Newt's burger.

Food was great, although it was a burger and they're hard to screw up. Best o - rings I've ever had. Also, thee worst service by a server ever. Waited till bartender delivered food to get a second drink because server never came back. Server never asked how anything was, she never once stopped back until our plates were empty.... More

This place has really good burgers and a big selection. Very reasonably priced. Pretty old school and I liked the popcorn machine. Just be aware that to get to the restaurant, you have to climb a flight of stairs. Might be difficult for some who are in town for a visit to the Mayo. They also had some interesting appetizer... When my daughter worked at the Mayo Clinic, we used to spend a lot of time in Rochester. We always tried to eat at Newt's at least once. We made a special trip to Rochester for lunch on our way to northern Minnesota for vacation to eat at Newt's. The burger was good & reasonably priced- but not worth driving... More
