Excellent Vegan and Organic Food

This place has great options and vegan food. Cute little place in a residential neighborhood. They also serve wine!

Once a dairy (in the 20's) then a neighbourhood grocery store starting in the 40's, the Birchwood Café was transformed into a popular eatery back in 1995. Two decades later it's still the local "go to" spot but it also attracts customers from far and wide looking for great locally-sourced food. For our first visit we tried their renowned savoury... Popular place for lunch, etc. Walk through line and order, then brought to table. Everything is organic; can't even get Sweet & Low, but they have agave and honey for tea, etc. Had the chicken noodle soup, which was the best I've ever had (including my own). I don't know what the mystery ingredients are, but it was delicious without... More

Dinner at the the newly remodeled and expanded Birchwood was a delight. The food was very fresh tasting; the chef took familiar menu items and added added inventive and flavorful twists . The server was friendly and helpful when trying to discern which dishes would we enjoy most.

We've eaten at the Birchwood several times on "Monday Night Date Night," but the food last night was so far above and beyond that I had to log in and write this review. We had a savory waffle -- oh goodness -- it had chia seeds and fresh herbs other yummies in it that made the texture so much more... More

This organic restaurant in a quiet So. Mpls. neighborhood has very good food but leaves a lot to be desired in terms of guest accommodations, particularly on weekends. The smaller size of the restaurant means that the cafeteria seating is quite limited; and they won't take your food order at the counter until there are seats available for your group.... More

I went here with friends on a Wednesday night for dinner. I was so in love with the menu options that I had a really hard time choosing, I found myself wishing they served as small plates so I could try everything! I settled on the pistachio encrusted trout which was exceptional - great flavor, great portion, excellent price. Other... More

The food is good at the Birchwood. This morning I had beans and rice. It came with brussel sprouts and squash. Everything tasted great. I wish I could get my vegetables as tasty as they do here. They have cafeteria style seating in most of the restaurant. (I am just not a fan of this) We had a big problem... More

We just adored the Birchwood Cafe! From its menu with locally sourced food & allergy free (especially gluten) options, there is something good for everyone. Also, they offer sampler plates which helped me not decide on just one dish. The atmosphere is casual, warm, and inviting with big tables that can be shared community style for smaller parties or host... More

We LOVED the Birchwood Cafe. We spent a weekend in Minneapolis with friends, and we all voted this restaurant our "most likely to come back to" place. The menu is eclectic and everything looked delicious. Portion sizes are adequate, but not huge. They also have a wonderful looking bakery. Here's what we ordered: Chips & Salsa appetizer: Average. In retrospect,... More
