Great Cheap Eats for Lunch in Dinky Town

I went to Kafe 421 with a group of coworkers. The Harvest Salad was great... had that paired with a chick-pea soup. I think my favorite, though, was the Olive Tapenade appetizer. Try to go during "happy hour" for reduced price apps and drinks.

The food was so fresh, the salad was great! We shared a wild rice burrito it was tasty and the meatloaf sandwich was good too. The servings were big. The atmosphere was nice. We were very impressed. I think it had a Greek flair but served fun and interesting entrees.

Varied menu with vegan and gluten free options. Strong Greek influence in the menu -- lamb, chickpeas, feta cheese. Outside tables were full so we ate inside. Service was excellent.

A group of friends met for wine and dessert last week at this Greek-inspired Dinkytown restaurant. There was a good selection of Greek favorites, reasonably-priced wines by the glass, and scrumptious desserts. We sat in the back room, where it was quiet enough to carrry on a conversation for our party of six. Parking is always a challenge near campus,... More

We were doing a light rail/walking tour of St. Paul and Minneapolis while visiting our son when we found ourselves starving near the U of M campus. We had eaten many unmemorable meals in this vicinity while our 2 sons attended UofM from 2001-2009 so I was skeptical when my son suggested Kafe 421. The food was awesome! All 5... More

Three of us ate here early on a Sunday for a very late lunch. Two of us had the soup and sandwich special of Tomato/Basil soup and grilled cheese sandwich. The soup was very hearty and garnihed with chopped Basil leaves, the sandwich was a crusty french bread with three cheeses, including a pepper cheese. perfect portion sizes. The third... More

We had dinner here before a Gophers basketball game. 6:00 reservation and we made the 7:00 tip easily. The menu has some nice variety, salads, appetizers, burgers and sandwiches, pasta and Greek entrees. Everyone will find something they like. The restaurant looks very small, but there is a nice dining room in the back. prices are reasonable and food is... More

This restaurant is our favorite little unknown place in town. We are never disappointed and always walk away saying that was delicious. They have the best Bolognese I have ever had, trust me you will want to lick the plate. The Spanakopita is some of the finest you will ever have also. Wine and beer only.

My friend and I both ordered seafood on this, our first visit. He had scallops and I ordered halibut. Each was beautiful to look at and cooked exactly right; both were on a bed of risotto with spinach. Of the two sauces, my light lemon sauce was perfection. However, if I hadn't had that, the browned butter sauce with herbs... More

This is a charming little spot in the heart of Dinkytown. On a Thursday night, it was easy to get a table however the place was by no means empty. It was filled with dates, families and friend groups. The dinner me menu was priced fair with a variety for Greek-American dishes and a plenty for vegetarian options. Our table... More
