An Absolute Delight

Just about the smallest restaurant I ever dined in. I believe that I counted 13 stools, and we were lucky (after some shuffling) to get four in a row. You sit about 3' from the guy cooking your breakfast and the bill is tabulated by hand. Get in here while you can!

Delicious. I've taken everyone from my 70 year old father to my 10 year old son and niece. It doesn't matter. Everyone loves it. It's great food. Great prices. Great atmosphere. Fun conversation with people around you (intentional or otherwise). A great excuse to visit the beautiful U campus. Love the servers. Love the pancakes. Fun experience.

I read online about how this was one of the best places to get breakfast at in Minneapolis and that it's a must to try at least once for the experience. So, I scouted out a good hotel location within walking distance (University Inn on SE 4th St.) so that we could get up one morning and walk to this... More

Al's Breakfast is a Minneapolis institution, and it's easily one of my favorite restaurants in Minnesota. To start things off I need to mention the Pancakes. Al's buttermilk blueberry cakes are arguably the Best Pancakes I have ever had! Their are no words to accurately describe how good these are. Cancel whatever it is you had planned for breakfast tomorrow... More

The wait was long but worth it. Expect around 30-45 minutes of watching the people on the stools eat in front of you but the food us fresh and fairly priced. Must go when in town!

The food was amazing, cooked right in front you on an old cast iron stove. This place is tiny, maybe 12 stools on the counter, no tables. I had an omelet, which looked burned when they served it to me, but it was out of this world delicious, no idea what they do to make it taste so good. This... More

Worth the wait. Just make sure you follow the protocol. If all 13 stools are full, you must get in line and work your way to the far wall. THEN, one of the counter workers will ask how many in your party. You will wait until that number of stools are vacant before they will sit you. Don't worry if... More

So yeah you wait. A long time. It is very small, maybe 14 barstools. The food is very good. Its not expensive and the servers are great. Its just fun to watch them. I don't know if I would be willing to do the wait all of the time, but if you get the chance, definitely put this place on... More

Al`s is a thirteen (13) stool breakfast bar. The space is tiny small, but friendly, with an excellent staff. Our waitress has been there 35 years, so far ! The pancakes are excellent and most recommended. You will probably have to wait for a seat, just behind the eating customers, but it is not a long wait and worth it.... More
