Al's is awesome. Plain and simple. Don't want to wait? Don't go or go early. Pancakes are to die for and the eggs, regardless of how prepared are always tasty. And the coffee is as good as any around. If only they served Bloody Mary's.

Are you an european (Italian?) lookig for an authentic american experience? Go to this place. Beside the experience there is not much else to say: food is good, but nothing extraordinary. The place is narrow and everything inside is probably as old as the owner(s). It is set up in a nice neighborhood, so it might be a visit just... More

What a great place to find on a Friday morning in the cities. Visited from out of town and walked in to find two stools at the bar. This in itself was amazing in that there are only (by my count) only 13 stools in the entire place. The restaurant looks to be only about 10' wide! The staff was... More

Expect a wait when you dine at Al's. I was visiting Minneapolis with my boyfriend and wanted to go to some of the iconic staples around the city. Al's Breakfast was small (but I was expecting that based on research I had done) and we probably had to wait around 45 minutes for two stools. The setup is a tad... More

The abundance of 5 star reviews has me baffled. Vintage ambiance is about all that the hype lives up to. If you're looking for a long, uncomfortable wait in a dirty, cramped closet then here it is. Blueberry pancakes were heavy and bland. Corned beef hash was a pile of hash browns with a sprinkle of corned beef, onion and... More

We were lucky, we got to dine in Al's Breakfast without having to stand in line, which would appear to be the norm. The place is tiny with 14 stools, and the scale of the room (narrow at only 10' wide) is part of its charm. The food is really good and the service exemplary. Its been there since 1950... More

The food is decent and I gather the wait line is part of this experience. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and have a patient group. Lively banter with the service staff adds to the experience.

We've been breakfasting at Al's for decades. Fancy? No. But if you like breakfast, Al's is the place for it. The menu is extensive, but if you don't find something you want on the menu, ask for it and they will probably make it happen. Weekend cook, Alison, creates specials available only on the weekend (Well, sometimes there is a... More

This tiny restaurant in Dinkytown has a well deserved reputation. I had scrambled eggs with bacon, smoked cheddar and Hollandaise and toast. It was fabulous. There is quite a wait for a seat at the bar, but it's worth it.
