Good things come in small packages.

This tiny restaurant in Dinkytown has a well deserved reputation. I had scrambled eggs with bacon, smoked cheddar and Hollandaise and toast. It was fabulous. There is quite a wait for a seat at the bar, but it's worth it.

Don't be put off by wait or single counter seating. This place is SMALL. Perfectly cooked poached eggs, fresh potato hash browns, crispy bacon and blueberry pancake. Pancake was good but a little tasteless. Coffee was dark roast and rich. Expected watered down diner coffee. Staff has their own language to bark out orders and interact with each other. Paid... Best dang buttermilk pancakes in Minneapolis. Also had eggs Benedict-made the typical way, very good. Had them with hash browns-just an opinion but the hash browns weren't especially flavorful nor worth the amount of grease consumed. Be prepared for high noise level and friendly quirky service.

Long wait but great food and service. Didn't know that the waiters doubled as the entertainment too :) Omelets were great, blueberry pancakes to die for, and the hash browns were dynamite as well.

If you're lucky enough to get here when there's no line/wait, than you're in for a treat. Don't plan on eating here with a large group (2 or 3 MAX). Sitting at the counter with hungry people behind you is an experience you won't get anywhere else. It's truly one of a kind and is a must if you have... More

We first saw Al's on "Triple D", so when we were in MN decided we had to try it. Totally worth the maneuvering around the small space (and entertaining too). Cooks and wait staff are soon nice, and the food is awesome. We had a Jerome, yum! and another delicious egg dish to share.Poached eggs are a specialty, and their... More

It's really like a narrow corridor, with a long bar and stools for the customers. The atmosphere is jovial and warm. The servers (probably University students) are invariably kind and helpful. The blueberry and walnut pancakes out of this world. A place to visit in Minneapolis. But be careful, when you look for it if you blink you'll miss it... More

Very few Breakfast experiences like it. Learn how to do the "Al shuffle." I always get the Jose with a side of blueberry pancakes.

Dinky town's hidden jewel is Al's Breakfast. The old breakfast bar is a tiny one table restaurant built in a what used to be an alley. And although this IS NOT your extravagant NYC Rao's, the breakfast hand-prepared by Al himself is to die for. I make sure to go here every time I am in Minneapolis! Best breakfast in... More

This is definitely a one of a kind restaurant. Don't visit if you are opposed to cozy spaces and potentially long waits. If you want a unique, reasonably priced, fun breakfast experience, visit Al's. The food was great and the interesting atmosphere make it worth the visit.
