Worth the wait..

We first saw Al's on "Triple D", so when we were in MN decided we had to try it. Totally worth the maneuvering around the small space (and entertaining too). Cooks and wait staff are soon nice, and the food is awesome. We had a Jerome, yum! and another delicious egg dish to share.Poached eggs are a... read more

It's really like a narrow corridor, with a long bar and stools for the customers. The atmosphere is jovial and warm. The servers (probably University students) are invariably kind and helpful. The blueberry and walnut pancakes out of this world. A place to visit in Minneapolis. But be careful, when you look for it if you blink you'll miss it... More

Very few Breakfast experiences like it. Learn how to do the "Al shuffle." I always get the Jose with a side of blueberry pancakes.

Dinky town's hidden jewel is Al's Breakfast. The old breakfast bar is a tiny one table restaurant built in a what used to be an alley. And although this IS NOT your extravagant NYC Rao's, the breakfast hand-prepared by Al himself is to die for. I make sure to go here every time I am in Minneapolis! Best breakfast in... More

This is definitely a one of a kind restaurant. Don't visit if you are opposed to cozy spaces and potentially long waits. If you want a unique, reasonably priced, fun breakfast experience, visit Al's. The food was great and the interesting atmosphere make it worth the visit.

My husband requests this restaurant each year for his bday in July. It can be hot once the wait is over and watching agonizingly slow people eat their food while you wait behind them sucks. The staff have worked there a long time and have lost some of their jolly spirits - mostly come off as in a hurry to... More

Very small with just counter seating, but totally worth the wait even if it means you're waiting right behind people watching them eat while you're hungry and anxious to get seated. The atmosphere just makes you feel warm and fuzzy, especially in the winter. There's something about the simplicity of delicious breakfast basics and a place that forces you to... More

....I wouldn't say it's worth the wait. Or the crabby "hostess". Or the folks waiting in line watching you eat. There is a great menu. And reasonable prices. Bottom line, there's plenty of good breakfast around without the hassle. And her attitude isn't charming.

in the cramped space, you line up along the wall and wait your turn in a regimented way. But when you sit down, (30 min later for me on a weekday at 8 a.m.) you get an amazing, flavorful concoction. My pancakes were a bit gummy buy my eggs were delicious. And they are very friendly.

Al's Breakfast... If you're a U of M alum, you already know about this little jewel in Dinkytown. I came back after 25 years and found that it is still one of the best breakfasts EVER! My wife (not a Gopher) was also impressed. She said that it was the best omelette of her life.
