Soooo, you've read that you must go to Al's....so why not! Go ahead and have the pleasant experience of an itsy bitsy place to eat, with great food and a crazy loud staff behind the counter and folks to meet all around.Yes the Eggs Benedict Hollandaise sauce is smooth and lemony and wonderful and the hash browns crispy and yummy.... The food is average. Better than commercial spots like Denny's worse than a lot of other small diners.. they know how to cook all the food and you'll get a plate full of flavorful stuff. It just wont be anything above average. They sure do stay packed though and the experience is interesting. It isn't spectacular but I still recommend... More

As a student at the U, I'd heard a lot about Al's but never tried it. Then, at 6 a.m. one Saturday morning, I found my way to this adorable, tiny restaurant and had some pancakes. The atmosphere was great and at that hour, we didn't have to wait. The food was also really good, and I am definitely planning... More

So, so tiny with only 14 stools at a counter. The people working there were outgoing and friendly. Our eggs benedict had a great homemade hollandaise. It was charming.

This place is very small, only room for 13 people. We went early on a Friday and the wait was not too bad about 20 minutes, when it was our turn the three seats that were open were not together so the server just asked people to pick up their plates and slide over. Our food was served nice and... More

My husband and I visited this restaurant because we watched it on Diners Drive ins and Dives. It is a quaint place in the University of Minnesota district. The food was cooked fresh and was very good. They can only serve 13 at a time so be prepared to wait a little. The service is fast. Well worth the wait.

Both my boys went to the U of M so we shared a breakfast or two over here. Great experience to just get it under your belt. It's a tight squeeze, you stand behind the folks eating at the breakfast bar, wait for a seat to open and snuggle in for some eggs. Worth the wait as I LOVE diner... More

Always mobbed by University students, locals and tourists (I think it was "discovered" on Diners, Dives and Drive ins), Al's is a classic. The freshest eggs, the best pancakes, and servers who don't miss a step even when orders are flying fast and furious. People waiting for one of the seats at the counter line up behind the counter pressed... More

We heard about this place from Guy Fieri. Our timing was great as the line was short. When my husband joined us after fighting the parking battle, we had to go to the end of the line because you're not allowed to hold places in line. Frankly, that irritated me. All of the food looked good as we squeezed ourselves... More

Our son who just graduated from the U of M insisted we give Al's Breakfast a try. Lucky for us, it wasn't too busy so we were seated (on the stools at the counter) within 15 minutes. We all ordered the Eggs Benedict and it was fantastic!! Coffee was great and the service was friendly. When we left, we were... More
