Decent steakhouse, somewhat pricy

Living here, it becomes obvious quickly that there are limitations to the dining scene (other aspects of GR life make up for it). If we are going out to dinner and don't feel like driving to Duluth to mark a special occasion, this is where we go. I typically order the walleye a la ritz, while my... read more

it has been many years since I have been in an Embers Restaurant. The food was very good and as a bonus..breakfast is served all day. The wait staff is friendly and the prices are very reasonable. Bridgeman's Ice Cream is also available..an old favorite.

The place was dark and the decor was older. My hubby and I both ordered steak: prime rib and sirloin. My prime rib was decent. The sirloin tasted funny -- not like good steak should. The salad was mostly iceberg lettuce. Service was fine. If I were staying in Grand Rapids again I'd save money and get better food at... More

We had been out of the Grand Rapids area for 18 years. So spending time in the area was a bit past due. We decided that we should bring our sister & brother-in-law to the Cedars. We had a nice time and Sunday made it nice since the Sun Downer specials were going on until close. 3 of us had... More

We made a reservation for a family celebration. It was an early dinner (5:00) in order to attend an event at 6:30. Unfortunately it took the kitchen until 615 to produce our meals! So much for taking advantage of the Sundowner menu because our meal went directly to a To-go box with no time for dessert (we were not offered... More

I went over in my wheelchair to pick up our meal. The owner asked if he could help me take the meal back to our room at the motel next door! When the hill got steep, he handed me the bags of our meal and pushed my chair instead. He saw me to our door and carried the meal in... More

I think the first impression here is one of "oh wow, the 70's want their stuff back." But don't let that fool you---sit down and enjoy a great meal. From lobster to burgers to the bread....we had a great time and enjoyed the food. We will definitely be going back and when we have friends in town, will be taking... More

Wonderful midwest pork chop at least an inch thick and very tender. My husband had prime rib smothered in grilled onions and mushrooms - yum. The au gratin potatoes were to die for. Light and flaky popover. The house wine was good too. Very friendly and helpful server. Decor is like being in a lodge complete with fireplace.

The Cedars has a very northwoods feel, complete with a roaring fire, which made it perfect for a nice dinner on a cold winter night. The food is traditional supperclub style, including perfectly prepared steaks. Not inexpensive, but a decent value for what you get.

It is a pleasant, rustic dining room. The service was very good and the food was delicious. I will be going back next time I'm in town.
