Lovely space, upscale menu

We've been visiting the Lake Avenue Cafe for years for its great location and lovely windowed space. In the past years the menu has gotten fussier, with many gourmet terms that send me to the dictionary. I miss the simpler fare of yesteryear, but still enjoy the dining experience.

Met my sister in law for her birthday at Lake Ave Cafe as she has certain food intolerance. The menu here has more options than the average. Absolutely loved the bacon wrapped Chorizo stuffed dates with a lovely Cabernet. Scrumptious and good conversation.

Excellent food and service, has full bar and outdoor seating is available during warmer months. The classic hamburger was absolutely fantastic, as was our chili and soup dishes.

I recommend Lake Avenue Cafe to visitors and locals who are looking for an upscale meal in Canal Park. It is not priced for a tight budget, but the quality of the food is excellent, and the menu is interesting and diverse. The Saam appetizer is tender and flavorful. The pulled pork filet is smoky and delicious, and paired perfectly... More

Seriously overpriced, especially cocktails. Ouch! I think that the location (tourists) allows for the high prices.I have never found the food to be consistently outstanding to warrant the high prices. Service can be really great or sub par.

I had the goose cassoulet. Aside from my wife's cassoulet, it was the best I've had since we were in Carcassone. The wine list is good, ambience is a delight and the service is great. It's a must stop for us when we go to Duluth.

We went here on the recommendation from a local and enjoyed it. Interesting cocktails and good tap beer. Possibly the best mac and cheese I've had and my husband really liked the bbq pork filet thing. We shared a wedge salad which I highly recommend. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the French onion soup - I like... More

We had dinner here and ordered a number of appetizers ("smaller plates") - all quite interesting tastes. The pork belly in the ssam was mouthwatering and tender; the bacon chiruzo dates were very good. However the goose pizza we tried tasted somewhat flat - a lot of goose meat but not much else. The udon noodle is more south Asian... More

We ate here for lunch because we had a 6 month old grandson with us and mom and dad did not want to wait in line for the Northern Waters Smokhaus (across the hall) and have to eat outside. So we walked into the almost empty Lake Avenue Café with no wait and plenty of seating. The lunch menu was... More

Absolutely by chance we stumbled onto this cafe for lunch. Not being overly hungry, two of us split a French toast rueben sandwich that consisted of corned beef, French toast with cinnamon, pickled cabbage and a rich Gruyere sauce. It sounded both intriguing and strange at the same time but the bartender/owner of the restaurant convinced us that it was... More
