A bit upscale - worth the price

Our party of 6 each had different entrees - all good! I had the trout, which was nicely presented and cooked to my liking. We ordered the dates for an appetizer, which were beyond delicious. My husband had mac & cheese, which he thought was great. An excellent dinner, attentive waiter but not... read more

Had a great experience at Lake Ave Cafe! Service was great.. Brunch menu had a southwest feel (was a little skeptical having just moved from Denver).. The huevos were great!.. But it was the Bloody's that stood out!.. a little spicy but great flavor!

Brunch is the way to go. Great coffee and most affordable experience. Dinner is a crap shoot. Service tends to be slow and lacking in friendliness.

We stopped for brunch, and got an outside table. Service was pleasant and helpful. The Bloody Marys were some of the best I've had. The food was very expensive, small portioned, and way too pretentious. Did I mention the Bloody Marys? Would have been a 2 rating without them

We happened by this friendly cafe for lunch, ended up back again as part of our brewery tour the same night and returned the next day for brunch and spicy bloody mary's. The menu is unique and the staff is superb. This is NOT like the other big eatery's in the canal park area. Personal service, great patio and unique... More

Great setting & atmosphere. Once seated, we were not approached or brought water for over 15 minutes and we watched 2 other tables walk out for the same treatment. Poor communication in the service department, even at 8:30 pm. Also disappointed the chefs over cooked my salmon. I might give this place another chance, but it won't be for awhile.

My boyfriend and I ate here for his birthday and it was GREAT. The cocktails were also delicious. This isn't the place to go if you are a picky eater, but definitely worth a stop if you are more on the adventurous side. If you don't understand what everything on the menu is (we didn't), the waitstaff are super helpful!

Great food, a little more expensive, but great, happy service for a family of eight. I had the Felafel Salad which was excellent!

Each year we stay in Canal Park for a week. Lake Avenue has always been a favorite (we sometimes ate there three times in a week!), but the past two years have been disappointing. Recently I had the Buttered Popcorn Gnocchi for a $20 lunch and I was devastatingly disappointed. It came out in a small stylish mountain that was... More

It looks much more casual than the food suggests. The dinner and drinks could probably work very well in an upscale Twin Cities restaurant. An interesting dichotomy for sure. And I love that the restaurant uses local food and spirits. Great place for a casual but nice dinner!
