Do Swede

Stopped in for lunch last week. Picked the seasonal menu option of Swedish meatballs. Wow. Spot on; everything was perfect........the hand made meatballs, groovy mashed potatoes, and don't get me started on the phenom gravy. Came with pickled cucumber, lingonberry sauce, and pickled onion. You... read more

We decided to try this restaurant based on a recommendation. We were easily able to get in on a Friday night, which was nice (not something that can be done easily back home in the Twin Cities). I ordered a ribeye steak with mac and cheese on the side. The steak was alright - nothing especially memorable, decent flavor (could... More

The Rathskellar is in the sub-basement of Tycoon's alehouse. It's an intimate space featuring overstuffed easy chairs and sofas nestled among the brick and stone arches -an absolutely unique ambiance. They have a wide range of local microbrews, as well as a nice selection of specialty drinks. They also serve a variety of creative bar food items. We liked the... More

It is former City Hall/jail. Interesting building and great old pictures. Jail cells in basement. Free parking in the lot if you give them your license plate number. Food was good and with 9 interesting variety. Like one gal said "I am glad I ordered this salad, and would order it again"

We actually arrived and they weren't even open yet so the bartender said to sit down and relax, he is there to work and has money in the till so no worries that it wasn't opened yet. Very pleasant to talk to and gave us some pointers of other good watering holes. We didn't have intentions of eating there, we... More

Do not ever order breakfast here!! It was the worst breakfast ever!! Entire meal was cold. Eggs must have been deep fat fried, couldn't even cut them. Hashbrowns , cold and i mean as if they came straight out of the fridge. Toast was cold with no butter. Bacon.. two and half pieces. Cook actualy tore it in half. Don't... More

We chose this place for dinner after looking at reviews of restaurants near our downtown hotel. Salad and walleye for me, trout for my wife - we didn't have any dessert. As I recollect, the food was good but not great and the service was fine. There was a live musician playing when we started our meal but she was... More

... And it was worth every penny. The Tycoon name stems from the fact that at the turn of the century, Duluth had more tycoons per capita during it's boom era than any other city in the country. This relatively "new on the scene" restaurant celebrates Duluth history by combining classic period style with eclectic new elements. A nice departure... More

Visiting some friends and they suggested Tycoons for dinner. We were seated right away. Waitress was very helpful with drink selection. Food was very good. Were told of the Rathskeller below and the activities happening upstairs during their Oktoberfest celebration, but we did not check it out.

I'd say that there is not a good value here any more. Portion sizes and quality have gone down to the standards that Tycoons had in the past. I came there with my wife and had a $16 "Butcher Burger." It was dry and overcooked and resembled a small hockey puck. My wife's wild rice burger was less than half... More
