I ordered the butterscotch malt because of a reviewers recommendation and it was SO good! Can't wait for the chance to have it again!

What a great place to have some ice cream. It was incredible. Only down side is they only take cash. My family very much enjoyed this place. It was packed with people. Everything tasted so fresh. We were able to sit at the picnic table and look out over the lake.

No trip to Duluth is complete without an Old Fashioned malt from Portland Malt Shop. They are spendy and get more so every year, but they are soo rich and creamy and indulgent! Get one and walk the Lakewalk; it doesn't get any better on a hot day.

Wonderful ice cream treats in various sizes. I enjoy a small treat multiple times every summer! Word spreads fast when it opens in the spring. There IS generally a line. It moves quickly and is worth it.

We have stopped here quite a few times over the years and this time the ice cream just wasn't all that good. It tasted like cheap grocery store ice cream. There are so many places now where you can get really good homemade style ice cream so you really notice when the quality is not that good. They do not... More

Have visited the Portland Malt Shoppe many times over the past 15 years and it has consistently been fantastic. The wafer on top adds to the charm. The location is perfect. A great walk up the lake walk right by Fitger's. There are picnic tables to sit at. Highly recommend!

A quick (30 second) walk from Fitger's Hotel and we enjoyed ordering ice cream from the smallest brick ice cream shop ever! There is no dining place except for two picnic tables, and this place was busy. Be prepared to stand or walk and eat your ice cream. Everyone's order was tasty and it satisfied us after a long, warm... More

The butterscotch malt I got from Portland Malt Shoppe was good, but certainly not worth $6.25! Sure, they try to gussy it up by sticking a wafer in it, squirting a pile of whip cream on top, and plopping a cherry in it. But you're still paying a ridiculous amount for some ice cream, milk, malt powder, and flavoring. I've... More

Cute building, so many choices. We stopped to get a malt before going on the ship tour. Waited in line, ordered, waited again and the left with our malts. The young man (teenager) who made them did not mix them well. Mine had clumps of malt powder throughout the entire malt and my husbands had raspberry syrup/flavoring around the outside... More

It's a Duluth Summer tradition. You know summer is here when the Malt Shoppe opens. The line is worth it! Take it down to the lakewalk and peoplewatch!
