We drove 2 hours to get to this restaurant and I am not lying when I say it is the best food I've ever eaten and well worth the drive. It was so flavorful, fresh and delicious. My fiancée ordered the Kay Kay which he enjoyed very much. i ordered the goat with rice and a mango smoothie. The goat... More

The wife andI had lunch here, shared the platter for two: fantastic and more than enough food for 3 or 4,goat, chickeh, beef, vegis and rice along with a wonderful broth and mango juice. The food was not as spicy as other African food we have tried, but there was a hot sauce served on the side,we told the owner we... More

This place is definitely worth a visit. Prices are very reasonable, with each lunch item priced at $10, which includes soup and rice or a salad. This was my first time there, so it was point-at-the-menu-and-guess time. First came a bowl of broth soup, served with a banana "to cool the mouth." (I'm skeptical of the reviewer who said the... My first experience with the cuisine. The staff was great, made recommendations. What a great find. Will go back to try other dishes.

Easy to find; small and clean. Very friendly staff. Order at the counter and then sit or have it to go. Grab your soft drink or water from the fridge at the counter. I had the soup and Kay Kay. Soup was so tasty and rich. Veggie and onion flavors with spices. See photo. Recommended. Kay Kay is a one... More

I ordered the Beef Sukar with Injera. First they delivered the tea which was hands down the best tea I've ever had. Then, the vegetable soup which is more of a broth, and filled with a million flavors and delectable. Then the Beef Curry which was enough food for two people, and was just like a dish I had while... I enjoyed the Kay Kay very much. Soup made from goat broth. Tasty. Great service. Friendly staff. Try the Somali tea. Highly recommended.

This is an absolutely wonderful way to experience authentic African and Ethiopian food! The experience took me back to Africa and the varied dishes we experienced a few years back. Do not miss an opportunity to visit Takawal. The food is not spicy, is very tasty, and is prepared and served by some of the most hospitable people we have... More

I love East African food. Ethiopian, Kenyan, Djiboutian--I love it all. When I heard that the Twin Cities metro area was host to a huge Somali diaspora, I knew there had to be some amazing food, and I found it in Tawakal. The quality starts with the people. Yussuf, the owner, is one of the most friendly people you're likely... More

A number of Somali friends recommended I try Tawakal, and I couldn't be more thankful for the recommendation. Above and beyond the delicious food, which was well-prepared with generous servings and incredible flavor (You haven't had Sambusa until you've had Tawakal's), the thing that struck me most was the friendly and genuinely nice reception I received by the owner, Yussuf....
