Food was great the soups are to die for! Must try tomato soup with homemade tomato basil bread! Very quaint and cozy place! Serves great gelato and specialty tea!

I want to thank the staff of the Pumpernickel for serving us during the restaurants's closing hours this Friday night (8pm). We were going to get gelato (which stays open 'til 10pm), but wanted to get a sandwich instead. Coming by at 7:55pm probably didn't help the wait staff, but I cannot thank them enough for taking care of my... More

The best gelato you will ever taste! About a dozen flavor to choose from. Try to have some every day we are on Union Pier!

Our family continues to love this place!!! I first came here in 2006, then almost every year after that...just recently we ate on Friday, August 17, the food was fantastic!! We are vegetarians and there's plenty to choose from. The ambiance is fantastic. There's even a public beach down the road (Rock Beach) friendly, clean, and not crowded...cars can park... More

We ate here 3 times during our 2.5 days in Union Pier - twice for lunch and once for gelato. The restaurant has about 10 tables and a couple outside as well. It takes a while to get seated even when tables are open (I think they are short-staffed) but it was worth the wait. They have an extensive breakfast... More

You won't find gelato better any place else than here. If you are in the are this place is a must. Price is not bad either. They also serve shakes and other desserts, and a full coffee bar as well.

We have eaten here several times when we had a rental on the lake. Always enjoyed a slow paced breakfast or lunch here. The Chicago Tribune is out for you to have a nice read. The lunch menu has many fresh soups and sandwiches you do not often find. Also, check out the attached ice cream parlor.

This place had a calm, sunny, and friendly atmosphere, but the breakfast was average. Some of it appeared to be made to order (e.g., egg dishes), but some (e.g., quiche) had clearly been sitting around for a while. While that's to be expected, it was notable that the restaurant's "breakfast special" wasn't even being offered....and the whole thing felt like... More

I have always had delicious meals at Pumpernickel. The restaurant has a good menu but not so many items as to be overwhelming. The soups are special especially the tomato bisque and the vegetarian chili. All soups are served with a large piece of homemade bread. I enjoyed the crab cake sandwich and also the salmon sandwich. And the ice... More
