Old Style Steakhouse

Nice, old style steakhouse. The interior is a bit dark and dated, but I think that was part of the charm. I had the chargrilled prime rib. It was pretty good, a solid B to B+. My wife had the sizzler strip special. Again, very nice. The wedge and the blue cheese dressing were excellent. The cherry... read more

We are local--as you know, locals know. This is by far and away one of our TC favorites. It has quality beef as well as fish/seafood--always fresh and brilliantly prepared. On Fridays and Saturdays they offer a salad bar--they have the best homemade dressings anywhere. We go here frequently and even their sandwiches are terrific. Tried and true--they have been... More

we have friends that always go here, so we tried it, Husband had the top of the line steak ($30) and it was nothing but grilse. baked potatoes were still hard, I had the highly recommended lake perch and it was full of bones. Husband said the blue cheese was good if you like a wedge of lettuce with some... More

Best place for the true meat lover. They also have fish dishes. Once you've eaten there you'll be planning your next visit. Small & cozy but always fast, courteous service.

This is our standby in Traverse City....if you want just good steak and a good wedge of salad with incredible home made blue cheese dressing...this is it! Great martinis...great service...and always good food! No frills...nothing spectacular...just damn good food...and attentive service...and, oh yeh...if you get the steak, get the mushrooms...fantastic!!!

This restaurant was recommended to us by locals and I'm glad they did. We went on a weekend evening and the place was jammed but the wait was worth it. The food although a little pricey was well worth the wait. We had the steak special and savored every bite.

Mode's Bum Steer has a full bar, thus they don't have booster seats or high chairs, as this is a non-smoking, first-come, first-serve adult steak house that doesn't take reservations. Four of us walked in last fall the first day of the Traverse City Film Festival and were greeted by the owner, a lovely woman who said they have been... More

Modes is the best downtown restaurant in Traverse City. Steaks and seafood cannot be beat. My favorite is the Lake Perch which are hard to find at most restaurants. And the weekend salad bar is tops. If you enjoy late night dining, Modes serves to midnight Fri-Sat late into the evening on week nights. Convenient location right in town and... More

We've eaten here many times, some in, some take away. Steaks and prime rib only - can't comment on the rest of the menu. For locals, you are typically going here or Boone's (outside of town) for steak. Re: price - for a large steak, the prices are reasonable. It isn't a Bob Evans steak. The traditional "salad" is a... Highly recommend, best food we had. Long wait but worth it. Decorating is very dated but food more than makes up for it. Go early, wait might not be so long.
