New Years Eve Treat

Surprised to get in on last minute reservation. Fixed 7-course menu limited to chef's choice and main dish being duck would not have been our choice. But others raved about it and everything else was superb. Wine pairings were perfect, service was exceptional and Chef was approachable, very cool... read more

I'm very conflicted with this review. The food was great. Delicious small plates - well thought out and crafted. Service is top notch - water glasses refilled with the slightest drink, plates whisked away without noticing, etc... All of that would equal a five star review. However, as mentioned in previous reviews, the setting is very intimate - you are... More

My wife and i first started to eat at the cooks house in its first location. The place sat as i remember about 12 people max. the kitchen was so close to the tables you flet like you were part of the staff and the food was WONDERFUL! Now they have moved to a larger location so your not quite... More

A year after we first followed Mario Batali's advice and ate at the Cooks House, 300 miles from home... Again the lure was the fall foliage on Mission Peninsula and the Traverse City area. Last week of October. it was spur of the moment so we couldn't get a seat at the pass this time, where we could watch the... More

If you are interested in a foodie experience, this is an excellent place to go. The chef's use local produce to prepare a seasonal menu. I have always had good, interesting food there. Setting is small and tight, you are exposed to the kitchen, which I enjoyed, others might not. If you are looking for a "standard" menu, you may... More

After we had heard so much hype about The Cooks House we were really eager to try it out. We stopped one afternoon to make a dinner reservation and found out that they made small plates from 2-5pm. We made a reservation for dinner and a reservation for a small plates afternoon. We had the small plates with friends and... More

This is probably the best food I have had in Northern Michigan. A very small house with tables set right next to each other, very tight! Cute decor, don't worry about dressing up for this place. Diner tables set with a kitchen looking napkin. Service is good but cold. Large esoteric wine list that offered most wines you don't know... More

Read a few reviews online and thought this sounded like a great place to prioritize on a quick trip to TC. We were seated at the "chefs table" (that is really two stools at a counter overlooking all the activities going on to cook & prep) and were treated to fantastic food while chatting with both front & back of... Found this restaurant via the internet and tried to get a reservation but booked for first night we tried. Reserved a table for 2 the next night. We each had the 5-course dinner with selected wines. We have been to Charlie Trotter's in Chicago and did not have a better dinner. Excellent meal; excellent wine; excellent staff. Definitely would recommend... More

We have eaten here many times over the last few years starting before their move to the current location. The high point of the evening was the service staff performance. the food however was another matter. The preparation was uneven and the menu descriptions in accurate. The farfelle and mushroom dish was a soup with rather bland taste and an... More
