We have been going to the Idler for several summers to sit in the sun for a nice lunch and drinks. However, this year, we were a little disappointed because the menu had changed and gone were our favs!!! We asked the waitress about it and she stated many had asked why the change in menu but she didn't have... More

Stopped here for lunch on a Friday. It's a restaurant/bar on an old boat on the Black River. Sat down stairs in back of the boat. Great table to watch the boats go by. Our waitress was fabulous and very eager to please. The drinks were cold and the sandwiches were good. Don't know about dinner though. Very casual and... More

The Idler is an old riverboat permanently docked and made into a restaurant and bar. There is a lower enclosed level with lots of wood and a more intimate atmosphere and an upper level where you can bask in the sun and watch the goings on in the marina. My husband and I had an early lunch there trying to... More

stick with bottled beer for the best experience. Tap beer didn't taste clean, food is questionable at best (tiny kitchen in bottom of boat).

The servers hustled. Nice atmosphere. Great place to sit and have a drink or casual lunch or dinner, with a nice view of the harbor. Indoor or outdoor seating.

Favorite place in South Haven, MI is the Idler! We have been going there for years and there is not a better way to spend a great summer afternoon then to hang out on the Idler, order one of their specialty drinks (oh you have to have the South Island Long Tea or their Bloody Mary... none better!), watch the... We enjoyed our drinks and dinner on the upper deck of the Idler. The service was excellent, and the food was good. It was a great place to watch the boats on the Black River and the drawbridge across the river.

We stopped at the Idler for lunch on our way north on I-196. The restaurant is on a boat moored in the harbor in a shopping development called "Old Harbor". There is seating inside, outside under a canopy, and outside without the canopy. I enjoyed a Cuban Panini half-sandwich and cup of Pepper Crab soup (sliced green peppers, not ground... More

This was our first time in South Haven - we spent a week there - and ended up eating at the Idler twice! The first time was with couples and we sat in a little state room in the lower level and it was nice having an open air view of the water. The food was decent and there was... More
