While visiting South Haven recently my wife & I stopped in for a sandwich. I had the Rueben, I was very glad I did. Their corned beef is slow roasted in house, and very tender. When they assemble their sandwich, they use just the right amount of dressing and sauerkraut and don't try to take away from the star of... More

While the town undergoes road work everywhere, this was the only place open in mid March. Worth the walk around the street mess. Had a few beers, and talked, then on down the road. I bet this place is hopping in the summer season, can't wait to go back and see.

I would love to have given a great review of everything. However, after sitting down, I was completely overlooked for about 10 minutes. The restaurant was not busy and there was really no excuse. The bartender was fraternizing with obvious friends and there was no server to be seen. After clearly being ignored, I got up and left. Headed to... More

The big screens were great for watching a few football games, the only suggestion would be to spread them out a little. It didn't make sense to play the same game on tv's right next to each other. Nice place, dark and cozy. We sat across from the bar. There was a waitress, she was helping other customers, but never... More

Black River Tavern has a nice, friendly feel to it. The staff is pleasant and down-to-earth. The food is pretty good for a bar. The perch fry was excellent, in fact. A 24 oz. can of Pabst Blue Ribbon costs $2,75. I'd say that is the best part about this tavern.

Had my best meal at Black River. They made me a salad to order and grilled me some shrimp the way I wanted. Excellent wine!! Very friendly servers. Be sure to put this one on your list.

Black River Tavern offers the best drink specials in town. The wait staff is fun, energetic and love to talk with the guests. The best dish....perch tacos! My husband started to celebrate four anniversary here and ended up back after sunset. Also met some great gals from Chicago and learned about Buddhism! Where can you find that?

We stopped at BRT because of the reviews and they had perch on the menu. It was crowded and initially I was told we had a 45 minute wait. I was able to find some bar stools and we ended up sitting at the window bar immediately. We began our meal with the wings which were very good and meaty.... More

Husband & I wanted a meal & a beverage before walking down to the pier for the sunset. We were seated in a timely manner, the waitress was very helpful in choosing our meals. The food (perch dinners) was excellent & so were the beverages. This is a bar that serves food, very casual. We didn't stay for the comedy... More

The brick wall and dark casual ambience is quite enjoyable. However the amount of visible filth on the floor and dust took away from the dining experience. The waitress we had was friendly/sweet and the perch dinner was delicious. Despite that I did enjoy my perch, the debris is very distracting and reflects poorly on the Black River Tavern.
