Since 1986, Ida Red's Cottage has been serving Made-from-scratch breakfasts and lunches, year 'round. Our little place is a busy one, and our kind of cooking takes time, so expect to have to wait, sometimes a long time, during the summer season.

A very popular place for breakfast

Waited until late morning on a weekday to go, knowing how crowded it usually is. Four of us sat outside and had a great late breakfast. The highlights here are muffins and daily bakery goods. The wait list can get long, and the place always seems understaffed. There is a counter for quicker service, and a small outside porch for alfresco dining

Food is fine, once you get it. The nastiness of the owner and staff is intolerable. Even the menu is belligerent..."NO SUBSTITUTIONS EVER" or something to that effect. Really? No egg whites or egg beaters, in the year 2015???? Read the owner's snarky comments to the negative reviews here...that will tell you all you need to know about the place.... More

We loved dining on the lovely patio at Ida Red's. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. The pancakes were excellent. The best! The only downside was the wait for our food was extremely long, so don't go here if you are in a hurry.

We came here last year and thought we would try it again. We get that you wait a long time for seating, and you wait a long time for food because it's a popular place. There are no egg beaters or egg white substitutions, that I don't understand. Their omelettes are very good but from start to finish it took... More

I have been vacationing in Saugatuck for Venetian Week end for over 25 years.., I first went to Ida Reds when he was in a tiny house in the center of town.. If you are in a hurry ... Do not go to Ida Reds.. If you feel the wait is worth it then the food will not disappoint you..... More

We are early risers, so we were there fairly early on a Saturday. We waited about 10 mins for a table, we ate outside in the garden and it was very nice. By the time we left the line was out the door, people waiting on the street etc.

If possible, try to sit outside, although some tables are too sunny. But the setting is wonderful, in a well-tended garden with a view out to the lake. Breakfast is fairly typical fare, but nicely served; the staff are quite friendly. All in all, the atmosphere is highly recommended!

If you want to eat here you have to have cash, and you have to get there early or you'll be waiting. You'll be rewarded with a high quality breakfast. Their pancakes are unique and very good, a buckwheat like mix, lots of flavor.

We enjoyed the breakfast. The muffins and fresh fruit were excellent. The scrambled eggs were not up to par. I don't know if they had water or milk added but they were not very tasty? Coffee and service were really good.
