Town Tavern is a cool, contemporary American classic In 2007, a modern take on a traditional 1930s tavern opened its doors and made its mark on the busy streets of downtown Royal Oak. Town Tavern is a dining destination bursting with personality and serving up American comfort food with flair. When renowned designer Ron Rea was tasked with creating a contemporary version of an old-time neighborhood tavern, he infused the space with an extra-long bar, dark mahogany and rich red bar stools. Walls of the restaurant are filled with old photographs of Royal Oak, while walls of the bar are stocked to the ceiling with what's needed to create your favorite cocktail. Don't let the traditional tavern vibe fool you. Our menu is anything but typical. You'll find the finest bar plates, with a creative twist. The cheeseburgers top many best-of lists. Guests come from far and wide for our award-winning Venison Chili. And our Lobster Mac and Cheese is comfort food with upscale appeal. Of course, every dish deserves a beverage to match it. Choose yours from our extensive wine, beer and cocktail list. Town Tavern is that comfortable dining and drinking establishment that lends itself to leisurely meals and long conversations. Spend time here and you'll quickly understand why we're the talk of the town.

Town Tavern is my favorite Royal Oak Restaurant

We have been to Town Tavern a number of times and it never fails! I normally get fish which is artfully presented and delicious as well. The drinks are great, atmosphere and food are top notch as well. It is my "go to, #1 restaurant" in Royal Oak!

This is a really great place - dark wood, upscale, yet prices are reasonable. Entrees between high teens and twenties in price. Good app, salad selection, extensive wine list. Food was very good and service was excellent!

4 of us ate at Town Tavern on a recent Sunday evening. We got in before it got crowded and had a very enjoyable evening. Our waitress was friendly, polite, knowledgeable, and appropriately attentive. We had the Buffalo chicken mac and cheese, pulled pork enchiladas (2), and meatloaf. Everything was very good and the accompaniments for the meatloaf were unique,... More

The atmosphere is cozy and inviting. Service is well above par, most surprising for a pub / tavern establishment. The Sunday brunch specials really made our visit, but we want to return to try some of the regular menu items. The specials are very reasonably priced, and portions were generous enough. Our bill was $27 for two people (two entrees... More

Waitress was great, nice atmosphere but food was very overpriced for the entrees. Kale salad was great, tavern salad boring with iceberg lettuce, parmesean truffle fries good, a little cold, whitefish was very bland, had an odd taste, chicken special, NO flavor at all, just a piece of chicken with bbq sauce poured over it, brocolli no flavor at all,... We spend a wonderful evening at the Town Tavern in Royal Oak catching up with friends. The waitstaff was excellent, very attentive and the food was very good. We were not rushed at all and enjoyed a pleasant leisurely dinner on a Monday evening. Have been there previously and will definitely return.

My husband and I have visited this bar/restaurant 3 times now. The staff was very friendly and professional. The food was very delicious and not your ordinary bar food. Think more upscale fare. The wine and beer selection was good and diverse. Our wait time at 5pm was very good. The atmosphere is upscale casual. Very comfortable. We definitely will... More

A popular place for many years, 60, I think, we stopped in for lunch. Seating was immediate in our case. Great atmosphere and ambiance. Don't miss the onion soup! There are three choices of mac n cheese, each one better than the other. Comfort food at its best!

Love the food and the atmosphere at Town Tavern. We always get the crab cakes appetizer - amazing - and even though so many items on the menu sound good, I usually get the chicken milanese because it's so delicious. My husband has tried many items on the menu and has always enjoyed his meal. They have a great beer... More

I had the meatloaf while the wife had fish. Good food, good service, and the price, with one glass if wine each, came to around $63. We'll go back.
