Town Tavern is a cool, contemporary American classic In 2007, a modern take on a traditional 1930s tavern opened its doors and made its mark on the busy streets of downtown Royal Oak. Town Tavern is a dining destination bursting with personality and serving up American comfort food with flair. When renowned designer Ron Rea was tasked with creating a contemporary version of an old-time neighborhood tavern, he infused the space with an extra-long bar, dark mahogany and rich red bar stools. Walls of the restaurant are filled with old photographs of Royal Oak, while walls of the bar are stocked to the ceiling with what's needed to create your favorite cocktail. Don't let the traditional tavern vibe fool you. Our menu is anything but typical. You'll find the finest bar plates, with a creative twist. The cheeseburgers top many best-of lists. Guests come from far and wide for our award-winning Venison Chili. And our Lobster Mac and Cheese is comfort food with upscale appeal. Of course, every dish deserves a beverage to match it. Choose yours from our extensive wine, beer and cocktail list. Town Tavern is that comfortable dining and drinking establishment that lends itself to leisurely meals and long conversations. Spend time here and you'll quickly understand why we're the talk of the town.

More bread please!

I loved this user friendly restaurant located in downtown Royal Oak. Everything was delicious... especially the garlic/Parmesan bread. Service was attentive and friendly. They forgot my salad but i didn't care because I had more food than I could eat.

This is a slightly off the main street local restaurant with terrific food, photographs with the history of Royal Oak on the walls, and you can actually hear each talk at the table! They have outdoor seating, terrific wait staff and food comes out of the kitchen fresh and hot. Nice way to spend an evening with friends.

The food here is always really good. Got lobster nachos ..yumm! Black bean burger a and pulled pork burrito. Also very good. Can be noisy if you're outside but good people watching curbside. Very good service....not inexpensive but worth it!

This is a very conveniently located restaurant. The food is okay. However, it is so noisy you will never be able to converse with your fellow diners.

We have been to Town Tavern a few times. But havent gone in the last 2 years. This last visit was very disappointing. The service was great but the food was not good at all. We sent our mac n cheese back because it was cold... It came back and it was a little less cold. The other entrees were... More

Town Tavern has very good food, especially the lobster mac and cheese. Service has always been good. The only drawback for me is that it can be quite noisy, so not a great spot for conversation.

We went on a busy Friday, so we had drinks at the bar while we waited, it didn't take long, and the beer list was good, our service was excellent. For dinner I had the kale salad, which was very good with just the right amount of dressing, and the whitefish was delicious! Would definitely return!

The Town Tavern is our go-to place for celebrating little victories at work. The fish and chips is my fave, but I've also enjoyed the Lobster Mac & Cheese and Petite Filet Medallion and I love the Parmesan Truffle Fries. The atmosphere is comfortable and elegant at the same time, and the staff is always great.

Saturday night and jam packed. The Whitefish was delicious and the service terrific. We had to wait a few minutes for our table, but passed the time with a wonderful house Chardonnay. Going back next weekend.
