The Red Coat in Royal Oak reminds me of that quote when baseball great Yogi Berra was asked if he still went to a popular restaurant. "Nah," he said, "No one goes there anymore, it's too crowded." The biggest problem with the Red Coat is, if you don't want to wait in line, you'd better go there early in the... More

I try to come here every time I visit the Detroit area. One of my favorite burgers in the world! Try to zip sauce (a salty mushroom concoction) and the onion rings. It ain't healthy, but its a treat several times a year I greatly look forward to. Expect to wait for a table.

My family and I decided to spend the day in Royal Oak, and picked the Red Coat Tavern to have an early dinner. We have heard many positive reviews about the food, especially the burgers and clam chowder. I ordered both. The chowder was decent but had very little clam. I ordered my burger medium well and it arrived at... More

I had been here many years ago so when in town to visit, I decided to come here with some friends. Be forewarned - it is dark. After coming in from the uncharacteristically bright Michigan summer sun, it took 10 minutes for my eyes to adjust to the dim, red glow of the lights that are throughout the place. The... More

Try the Brasserie Burger but be prepared to share. Never a disappointment here. Excellent beer menu also. Service is top notch.

Did call ahead one hour before, then waited another hour after that for a party of 8 on a weeknight. No apology from manager. It was upsetting watching people come in behind you, eat & leave & seriously they can't set a table aside? Food took almost 40 more minutes.

Fantastic burger but by now you know that. Never had anything else here and probably many can say the same. You will almost certainly have to wait and the bar can be crowded, but the bar staff are attentive and make a good drink. Love this place.

This is one of those build your own burger joints. Now that's not to say they don't serve other fare, it's just not what people go there for. It's well worth the wait if they are on one, which they always are. The parking is a bit tough too so expect to look around, I always end up on a... More

I'm biased because I grew up loving this place and it never disappoints. I always say that unless I come here two days in a row, I have to get the red coat burger. Could only order something different the second day, (maybe). You can have it their style (lettuce, tomato, special sauce on a bun) or you can dress... More
