Description: In 1936 Beverly and Rubye Osborne were driving west from Oklahoma to California. They had no reason to be joyful. They were middle aged and the Depression had wiped out their savings. On this particular afternoon it seemed that everyone in the state was attempting to escape the famine of the Oklahoma dust bowl. With not much more than their meager belongings and a basket of fried chicken, Beverly Osborne coaxed his Ford pickup across the barren prairie. Suddenly, a bump in the rutted road scattered the chicken and basket. Picking it up, Rubye complained "this is really Chicken in the Rough®." With that chance remark, a fortune was born. Beverly turned his truck around and headed back home. A man who, on instinct, had made a modest fortune and lost it - Beverly reasoned that "fingers were made before forks" and that chicken could be a cheap source of food at a time when incomes were sparse. Beverly learned from his previous business experience and failures that every business must provide customer satisfaction by identifying customers' needs and how to satisfy those needs better than anyone else. Soon, with the money he had received from the sale of his wife's wedding ring, he had an operation serving fried chicken with shoestring potatoes, hot biscuits and honey. That was the delectable meal that started "Fast Food - Fried Chicken Franchising" - long before McDonald's or Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Best fried chicken period! I no longer live in the region, but you better believe when we return to visit family, we eat at this place at least twice! I'm craving it right now! It's a shame there are so few.

This restaurant located in Port Huron is really something special to see. The inside is reminiscence of a 50's style diner, poster, music, red stools at the counter, the whole nine yards. Their claim to fame is their chicken, which my husband ordered. I had a bite and it was very good but also very salty for my taste. I... More

Chicken dinners to go is our must in Port Huron as we love to sit under the bridge to Canada and have a picnic by the river. The broasted chicken is very tasty with a crunchy outside and juicy inside and served with slaw, fries and rolls with honey. Call ahead for a minimum wait at their carryout entrance in... More

I don't understand the high rating for this restaurant. The place feels dirty right away. The food is completely unremarkable. The service is friendly.

I love there chicken! Best in town. Not crazy about their fries though. Great atmosphere and service. If you prefer carry out, it is fast and easy, and through the back door so as not to disturb the seated customers. Haven't tried much else on their menu except for the fish which is good too. Serving alcohol is a plus... More

We ordered the fried chicken, shoestring fries, cole slaw, hot roll dinner and were disappointed. The chicken was okay but on the salty side. The fries were fresh cut but limp and greasy. The dinner roll was like a wonder bread hamburger bun, ugh! I loved the atmosphere as it reminded me of the taverns we went to with the... More

What a great surprise. I have been to Port Huron, Michigan 50 times... I love going to this small boarder town for a quick shopping excursion, a place to take Amtrak to Chicago or just for the fun of crossing into the US for fun. Port Huron is located across the bridge from Sarnia, Ontario (one hour west of London,ON).... More

Perfect lunch at this retro diner. Tasty daily specials as well as their regular offerings. Loved the BBQ Mac n cheese and the cherry chicken salad. Chicken also first rate. Good and attentive service. A winner!
