As posted earlier - while the Grateful Diner sign is on the building, the new signs clearly announce ...... Jackie Cafe. Here is a short write up.. As I traveled through New Buffalo, I saw that the Grateful Diner was opened again. I believe under new management. I always enjoyed eating at this place and I was reminded again why. They do a great spin on breakfast and they have a friendly staff. They also offer outdoor seating.

Heard great things about it, but on Memorial Day 2014 when we walked by the sign said it is no longer open. Checking their Facebook page they said "It is bittersweet to announce that yesterday, Mothers Day 2014 was the last business day for Grateful Diner. As you all may know, We opened Mesa Luna 3 weeks ago in Sawyer,... More

Top notch fresh organic food, and welcoming staff. Breakfast is one of my favorite meals, eating at hundreds of diners throughout Chicagoland, this diner would give some of the top breakfast spots in downtown Chicago a run for their money. Kudos and keep serving up excellent meals!

We were so happy to have discovered this wonderful breakfast and lunch place. The food was excellent, and the service was so welcoming and friendly. I had never tried lemon curd before (the name scared me a bit), but I was glad I did. We're in town for the weekend, and plan to return tomorrow for another excellent meal.

I am a breakfast aficionado and GD is at the top of my breakfast list. My favorite is their Eggs Benito - 2 poached eggs on Virginia ham that is on top of cheddar cheese cornbread and topped with the most delicious serrano hollandaise sauce. I've also had their Chicken Shwarma, the Blackened Chicken Sandwich, and several of their homemade... More

Casual , friendly and Delicious. We were starving and couldn't decide what to order...so we tried everything. Farm to table vegetable frittata and Quiche, followed by apple waffles with Michigan maple syrup...and we couldn't skip the (made fresh daily) peanut butter cookies. Friendly staff in tie dyed tee shirts. Truck on over.

Wow. Best breakfast in a long time. We have eaten at Retro before and these are 2 completely different experiences. My friend had the waffle... Homemade sea salt caramel, toasted pecans. Real whip cream. Real michigan syrup. Carbon waffle batter! So good. My "daily" had this really good veggie potato cake/hash brown. My sausages were really big and juicy. The... More

This used to be the Retro Kitchen, which was fantastic. The new owners have kept the same prices and serve ordinary breakfast. The waffle was truly mediocre and cost $8! Sad to say I can get a better waffle at Sophie's or IHOP for less. Eggs benedict, the best thing I can say, it was edible. My wife and I... More

We discovered the Grateful Diner when we were driving into New Buffalo yesterday, and we immediately checked out the website when we got back to our rental in Union Pier. We called before coming to make sure that they could accomodate the vegan in our party. Sam, the owner and chef, told us that he would be creative, and he... More
