Each and every time my wife and I visit Villeneuve we make a point of going to L'Ecluse and also encourage anyone else who comes to Villeneuve to do the same. Visitors and Locals are equal; Alain and his staff are always very pleased to greet you, language is not a problem. The terrace on the Canal du Midi gets... More

Delicious fresh french cooking with a peaceful canal side location right by the lock. The restaurant is only 5 mins drive from the ladder of locks so we visited there afterwards. Priced very reasonably, about €60 for two courses plus wine for two people. Would love to return. Tip - request a canal side table when booking online.

Location is great, restaurant needs an update, especially the inside. Food quantity was ok but quality was mediocre, leaving a lot to be desired, which was odd considering everything is home made. Good selection of wines, tables by the canal are great, however the mosquitoes are everywhere so come prepared with repellant.

Fresh local ingredients. Good wines and great atmosphere on the terrace. Alain is a great host who is so good at what he does. Try the chicken with sage, superb and select from a great choice of homemade puddings. Excellent pannecotta! We ate here two nights but could have easily worked our way through the menu for a week!

The ladder of nine locks at Beziers is amazing, built in the 17th century as part of the connection of the Mediterranean with the Atlantic. You dont need to be an engineer to appreciate the this bold concept and extraordinary execution.

I found this restaurant on Trip adviser. Not to be missed. The staff are excellent, the owner charming, the meal was one of the best I ever had. The setting romantic. Highly recommended. I will return if I am in that region again.

I found this restaurant through Tripadvisor when planning a weekend away with a large group of girls. When we arrived at our apartment the owner told us it may be tricky to get to as we would have to walk for 20 mins or more down a canal path. Fine on the way there, but less so on the way... More

We visited L'Ecluse on a Sunday evening - it's always good in France to find somewhere that opens on a Sunday! The restaurant which is situated on the banks of the Canal du Midi was buzzing with local people creating a lovely atmosphere. The menu was filled with local delicacies and the portions were substantial. The food was very tasty,... More

You can tell this restaurant has a chef, not a cook. The dishes are well thought through, simple and delicious and fairly priced for such fresh produce. I had Dou foie gras as an entree which was exquisitely done and St Jacques for the main course that was perfectly cooked and sublime. House rose delicious too! However, service was slow,... More
