Lovely Setting

We were lucky enough to get a seat outside in the courtyard one evening for a meal. It really does feel like a little French grotto, decorated beautifully with little fairy lights in the trees and soft music in the background. The food was good - Nothing too fancy but we came away happy. The... read more

What a great deal this was! Brilliant meal with local ingredients, some of which - like rognons de veau (veal kidneys) - we'd not seen on menus before. Very reasonable price for what was a super tasty meal throughout in a lovely setting with outstanding service. Can very very highly recommend the prunes in Armagnac for pud...it'll be a long... Dining al fresco in a lovely courtyard surrounded by a dignified old building, in a very picaresque village, we were hoping that the food would be decent enough to match the surroundings. We were surprised that the ingredients were farm fresh, high quality and that the cooking was excellent. A number of appetizers were good and I can recommend the... More

Very well situated on the square where the market is held at the foot of the chateau. We stopped off for coffee a couple of times and for four of us it generally came to 10 euros. The tables are full of locals who were very friendly and seemed to be a meeting point for everyone in the village.

We stayed at the Donjon and enjoyed dinner and lunch - as well as enjoying some early evening aperitifs at the bar. It is located in the middle of a lovely village just below the walls of the chateau. The menu is not too large - always a good sign in my opinion. But offers a good selection of both... More

The courtyard, where you can have your meal when the weather is nice, is absolutely stunning. The vast medieval walls, made of natural stone make you feel as if you are having your holiday in another era. Doctor Who revisited? We had friends (a Norwegian/Lithuanian couple) over and we thought this would be the ideal place to have our lunch.... More

The desserts are divine, and when the owner is the chef you can be guaranteed to have excellent food. The location is fantastic, with a feeling of being right in the heart of mediaeval village life. Take your time, savour the atmosphere, and enjoy your day, this is the right place to be.

This was by far the best meal we had in france! The Escargots were out of this world with a walnut and parlsey pesto and the duck confit was amazing and served over a cassoulet with duck sausage. Definitely a splurge kind of a meal, but awesome. The server didn't speak much English but we had some incredibly funny moments... More

We visited this restaurant in Bourdeilles purely by chance. We had intended to go to another restaurant in the same village, La Dolce Vita, but as it was closed, we went to Le Donjon instead. We were really glad that it had worked out that way. I went with two Italians who are extremely critical when it comes to food,... More

On a recent visit to Dordogne area we had an evening meal in this restaurant and were so impressed we returned the next day for lunch which was equally good. The restaurant is in an outdoor sheltered courtyard. The prices are very reasonable, food was excellent and service was good. I would hightly recommend it. It is just opposite the... More
