It's the overall experience that makes this restaurant into a special adventure. You must take a carriage ride or bike to get to this very Hansel and Gretel like restaurant tucked away in the interior of Mackinac Island. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed ourselves here and it made for two very special dinners...one in the beginning of the summer... More

I had a truly excellent meal at The Woods. Initially, I was a bit put-off by the $7 per person carriage ride and the overall pretentiousness of the Grand Hotel (jackets required, kicking-out non-guests). However, the beautiful dining room and warm welcome we received washed away those misgivings. All the food we ordered was excellent, especially the goulash and the... More

Had read great reviews, but our visit was disappointing Fish had to be returned. Place is interesting, and maybe we just hit a bad night.

My wife and I had dinner here in early October. It was one of the last nights this restaurant is open for the season, and it wasn't very crowded. Service is top-of-the-line. We learned that what is a very professional wait staff returns to the island year after year in the summer. There also were some 'regulars' dining who clearly... More

Took an evening coach ride out to the Woods, which is tucked away from town in the woods, great horse carriage ride. Very attractive place - nice bar and rustic feel. Service was very good. Wine list was good. Food was above average - my dish was excellent, my wife's beef goulash was a bit over salty, but otherwise good.... More

We LOVE our dining experience at The Woods. Charming and quaint - excellent service and food. Yes, a little pricey - but no more so than any other venue on the island. We would highly recommend this restaurant and the extra time it takes to get to (a 20 minute horse taxi ride from town - $7 per person each... More

There is no short, fast, easy way to get to the Woods. First you call for a reservation and request a horse-drawn carriage to pick you up. You appear at the appointed time and place and are whisked away on a 20-minute ride to a Bavarian cottage deep in the interior of the island. Like many of the very high... More

Food was fantastic. Staff was very professional. Beautiful setting. It was a cold evening and we enjoyed the fireplaces in the dining room.

To start off, if you go to their web site it says you should make reservations, which we did not do. It was almost dinner time when we decided to go there and since it was a short walk from where we were staying we thought we'd try it. We also checked to see if casual attire was ok since... More

Like most of the restaurants on Mackinaw the food seemed overpriced but we had such a lovely experience it seemed worth it. We were dining with our toddler which is always stressful at higher end restaurants but our waiter Baldwin made it fun and easy for us. We especially loved the appetizers and the seasonal vegetables served with the main... More
