Found this restaurant on Tripadvisor and thought I would give it a try. Wonderful dill harvarti soup! I also had a great salad. I loved that décor. Old fashioned grandma tablecloths and friendly servers.

We enjoyed our breakfast. Everything was great. I had a quiche, muffin and fruit. The fruit was made today and each piece of fruit was full of flavor. The muffin was a delight. The quiche was excellent. My husband was happy that his regular breakfast was less greasy than it often is at other places. I enjoyed the tablecloths and... More

Came for breakfast. Pleasant staff and surroundings but food wasn't great I'm afraid. I had scrambled eggs, toast and potatoes. The potatoes were half raw and half burnt, toast was a bit limp and the scrambled eggs were rock hard. Coffee didn't taste of anything at all. I can see it's a friendly spot where you get a warm welcome... More

This place is highly rated so I assume I'm missing something. The decor was very dated and table linens were dingy. Service was friendly but very slow. The dill havarti soup was very good, but the roast beef sandwich I had was awful. Bread was soggy, meat was overcooked, and cheese was low quality and bland. Was there for lunch... More

Friends recommended a visit. We dropped in to reconnoiter and were treated like special guests!! We're just looking was treated as an invitation to sample.. and we did. Had a taste of wonderful dill soup. Had a fresh slice of white rye bread, even buttered. Conversed with the owner- a delightful and witty man. Everything we saw and each customer... More

I love chef johns for one thing, their dill havarti soup! I wish they were open all year but I know ludington is dead in the winter. Definitely worth the wait somedays, being that the dining room is usually packed, I get it to go. Favorite soup of all time!

Great place for breakfast. Not fast food, individually made egg casseroles, etc. And for lunch, soup selection and sandwiches are above average. Take home some bread and pastries too. Comfortable place with eclectric, homey decor. You'll see lots of locals here who appreciate good soup and breakfasts. pastreyegv

Choose to go to this place based on reviews. Was a little hard to find but asked a shop owner and she pointed the way. Great food, especially the cheese soup and breads. I had the goat cheese salad which was delicious. Nice atmosphere. Somewhat pricey but very good. Would definitely recommend and will go again when in the area!

We were in Ludington for the weekend, and found Chef John's on Trip Advisor. Wow---what a nice surprise, the food was great, the atmosphere was quiet but friendly, and the staff were all very nice. I had the quiche of the day and a pancake(which the cook made in the shape of a rabbit!) and my husband had the breakfast... More
