Friends recommended a visit. We dropped in to reconnoiter and were treated like special guests!! We're just looking was treated as an invitation to sample.. and we did. Had a taste of wonderful dill soup. Had a fresh slice of white rye bread, even buttered. Conversed with the owner- a delightful and witty man. Everything we saw and each customer... More

I love chef johns for one thing, their dill havarti soup! I wish they were open all year but I know ludington is dead in the winter. Definitely worth the wait somedays, being that the dining room is usually packed, I get it to go. Favorite soup of all time!

Great place for breakfast. Not fast food, individually made egg casseroles, etc. And for lunch, soup selection and sandwiches are above average. Take home some bread and pastries too. Comfortable place with eclectric, homey decor. You'll see lots of locals here who appreciate good soup and breakfasts. pastreyegv

Choose to go to this place based on reviews. Was a little hard to find but asked a shop owner and she pointed the way. Great food, especially the cheese soup and breads. I had the goat cheese salad which was delicious. Nice atmosphere. Somewhat pricey but very good. Would definitely recommend and will go again when in the area!

We were in Ludington for the weekend, and found Chef John's on Trip Advisor. Wow---what a nice surprise, the food was great, the atmosphere was quiet but friendly, and the staff were all very nice. I had the quiche of the day and a pancake(which the cook made in the shape of a rabbit!) and my husband had the breakfast... More

Chef John's has apparently let their fame and good name drive them into a false sense of security. Their portion size of their sandwiches has declined to the point where the size of the sandwich leaves much to be desired of a ten dollar sandwich. We purchased four sandwiches to go and were quite surprised to see the small and... More

We enjoyed our breakfast here two mornings in a row. We only regret not having tried their lunch menu. During breakfast they brought around a large inviting tray of cinnamon rolls fresh out of the oven for all to be tempted by. They were delicious. Everything we had was great and it was apparent that the local residents frequent this... More

This restaurant was rated very high on Trip Advisor as well as many other sites so we decided to give it a try. Oh.My.Goodness! Every single thing we ordered was scrumptious and we made 2 trips back while we stayed in Ludington for 10 days. Their homemade soups are unique and oh so wonderful (especially their signature soup, dill havarti).... More

We have eaten there many times in the last ten years. The food always Good, especially the nested eggs. Service has changed, the wait is longer. It's still a good place to eat so bring a magazine or book an relax.
