Hidden gem

We discovered this very nice, cozy eatery south of the main drag in Ludington. So many fresh, in-house creations from soups to baked goods. We just had a snack but saw many special items that we will try on our next visit.

I am a consistent customer of Chef Johns and have probably had everything on the menu at least once. I recommend it to all my customers with no reservations. Even if you just stop by for a loaf of their fresh baked bread (and a jar of my jam) you will not be sorry. Grab something to go if they're... More

If you are looking for a unique and eclectic place for lunch with fresh baked breads, homemade soups and flavorful sandwiches, then this is the place for you. I love all of their signature hot sandwiches and am always amazed by the soups. I recommend you get your own bowl of soup and split a chicken chipotle sandwich. Don't worry... More

We snagged a couple sandwiches to go before heading out to the state park. They were very filling and worth the money - though the to-go boxes could be more user friendly.

We've visited Chef Johns a number of times and love the bread and sandwiches. You can also take home a loaf of their fresh baked bread. It's tucked away on a side-street so it's not as easy to find, but well worth visiting.

Our favorite breakfast spot in Ludington. Great, fresh food, properly prepared. Great service and competitive prices. The bakery is also good.

This was the fourth time I've been here, always for lunch. Yes, the atmosphere is quaint, but I've learned to pick one of the more comfortable quaint chairs; otherwise for the most part the chairs are uncomfortable. Every soup I've tried is excellent, fresh made. The pickles served with sandwiches are crisp and very tasty. Even my non-pickle eating sister... More

Ate lunch here around 1 PM on Saturday. There was plenty of seating and the menu had a variety of options. Service was quite slow and the sandwiches we had were good, but not great. After reading so many great reviews we expected more.

Chef John's has some interesting food choices. Soups are very interesting. Sandwiches inventive. But somehow I always leave feeling it costs more than average to eat there.

We went twice for breakfast during our recent visit. Our first visit we ordered nested eggs and shirred eggs. A bit rich for our palates. The next visit we had smaller meals. We enjoyed our smaller meals. They also have a nice pancake they sell, whole grain, and it was rather tasty. Their cinnamon rolls are the bomb! We picked... More
