We found this a great place to hide from the rain. Bloody Mary's are pretty good. The bar service was good as well..

We have been coming here for thirty years, and it is still our favorite. They have consistently excellent service and food. The lightly pan fried "Blue bird style" whitefish is fantastic, and the pea salad is the best. I dream about this place all winter, and I cannot wait until summer comes for my whitefish fix. No one does whitefish... More

We are local and typically eat in the bar vs. restaurant when visiting this restaurant. I love that you can order the salad bar or order off of the fancy menu from the bar side. The restaurant is split. Be warned that they pretty much nickel-dime ya for most everything on their menu--you want tomato, cheese, onion, etc with that... More

Visiting The Bluebird is practically a right of passage on any visit to the Leelanau Peninsula. The restaurant's history alone is worth the visit. We recently stopped in for an off-season lunch. Nothing spectacular, and the restaurant portion of the place, which overlooks the river, wasn't open for the season yet, but it was still a good time. Had a... More

Good place for casual dining, good food and fun conversations with the locals. They have specials on most nights that add variety to the menu and half price pizza on Fridays during the off season.

I remember when you could go to Leland in the winter and there wasn't a restaurant open! Leland is growing and the Bluebird has stayed within the growth curve, adapting to the changing town economics. They still have the traditional dining experience (check to see if the dining room is open as they are more seasonal), the Early Bird (for... More

This past summer we shared a negative review of the Bluebird's "grilled" whitefish on their patio. However, recently we took our cousin from London, England to the inside dining experience and it was, without a doubt, the best whitefish we had ever eaten. And, living in northern Michigan, we've eaten a lot of whitefish over the years. Our cousin had... More

The food is not up to tolerating noisy, crowded service. Whitefish sandwich is OK, yet when there are smaller places in uncrowded locations on the Leelanau, I don't need to visit this place again. They evidently do not have the wherewithall to service their capacity adequately.

We enjoyed the bar with a nice collection of beers and good bar snacks. The restaurant has a salad bar that is included with most entrees. I thought that their signature dish was the whitefish. Tried it blacked/cajun, and was disappointed. The flavor was not very cajun. The fillet was very thin and the portion was small. They serve cinnamon... More

We returned here after many years and memories of dining here with our children who are now grown. The food is just okay but the service was terrible. The setting is still lovely. Oh well. Things change.
