As other reviewers have said, its a bit off the beaten path, and small, but the food is fantastic. In the summer I would certainly call and get a reservation - they seem to fill up fast. I have just stopped in for Lunch before, but I think calling ahead would be best. I have eaten here several times -... More

The menu may be a bit pricey, but the view of the Mainstream of the Au Sable in the heart of trout fishing's "Holy Waters" is worth every penny. Accommodations motel style are also located on site, as is one of the best fly shops in the north. Don't forget to ask about the "bread hole," a spot along the... More

Took my mother for Mother's Day. What a wonderful place. I've read of and heard of this place my entire life but I had never been there. We had lunch on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Great food, nice presentation, nice menu. Not the "normal" northern Michigan burger and fry joint. Right on the river, clean and pleasant decor. We will... More

Finding this restaurant from the highway can be a little confusing, but boy is it worth it! The food was beyond amazing. We had the parmesan encrusted walleye, which was cooked to perfection! Being located on a fishing camp, the venue is very small, so calling ahead for reservations would be a good idea. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant... More

My husband and I spent a few days in the Grayling area to kayak the Au Sable river. We stayed at Borchers Bed and Breakfast (another great find). Cheri, the owner, suggested we try the Gates Restaurant. It was wonderful. The food was good, my husband had the perch dinner and I had chicken Parmesan. It is so out of... More

We made reservations for our family of 5, and there was something everyone enjoyed. The menu was very unique and our dinners were delicious. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere was very cozy, as if we were eating in someone's home. The view was fantastic as we were right along the Au Sable River. Be sure to... More

Well, knock me over with a feather. This unassuming little restaurant, located inconspicuously next to Stefan's Bridge just east of Grayling, puts out some of the best food we had while vacationing in Michigan. Suggested by locals (how else would you find it?), the atmosphere was delightfully informal and woodsy and our dinners delicious. And we're not just talking burgers... More

Limited seating, and menu, but worth the visit for gourmet fish/food. Fly fishing lodging right on the AuSable with their own ORVIS SHOP!!!! Best trout dinner I have had anywhere.

My wife and I stayed at Gates' for our anniversary. We enjoyed both dinner and breakfast at the restaurant and spent a night in the motel. The entire experience was memorable. Really enjoyed dining near the river. Being an avid fly-fisherman I enjoyed the the sounds and smells of the river from the opening window near our table. The names... More
