I traveled with coworkers to Grand Rapids for 2.5 days of supplier visits. While investigating the food offerings, I found tapas! Oh, the yay! Being from Cleveland, neither of my coworkers had experienced the wonder that is tapas. So I dragged them with me. You're welcome. Drinks: we had a pitcher of red sangria. He also had wine. It was... My reservation was for 11:30 a.m. Sunday morning so my friends & I expected breakfast. Sorry, reservation is for San Chez but breakfast is only served at San Chez Cafe. Well, the breakfast menu is on the San Chez website & who eats tapas on Sunday morning? We did, 'cause that's the only option we were given. (Sharing tapas is... More

This was our fourth time in Grand Rapids for ArtPrize, and our fourth time at San Chez for breakfast. Their menu is not just your average breakfast fare. Offerings include interesting omelets (Cuban omelet anyone?), skillet dishes, and other items with a spanish flair. They also serve their toast with a yummy homemade jam :-). The staff is friendly and... More

As a New Yorker, I was a bit surprised to find such a great tapas place in Grand Rapids (I know, a little snobby. Sorry!) We had the cheese and ham platter (nice size and variety), the mushrooms, the tuna, the croquettes and the feijoada. Everything was well seasoned, cooked to order and the service was very good. The menu... More

This is a wonderful place to eat in downtown Grand Rapids, and the variety is amazing! There is such a variety of tapas to order, we asked our server to just have the kitchen start sending plates out of their favorite things and the variety was perfect! So many different flavors, and different types of plates, something for everyone! I... More

What a fun lunch we had at San Chez! We made reservations ahead of time for lunch during Art Prize, a premier event in downtown Grand Rapids. When we arrived our table was ready, and our server was prompt and attentive. Three of us had the pork belly soup with black beans and chorizo and it was excellent! The soup,... More

Nice variety of tapas, some playing to traditional tapas dishes while others are innovations on the typical. Red Sangria is excellent. Service is attentive. When they have it on the menu - tortilla espanola (Spanish omelet) and pan con tomato (bread with tomato paste) are both excellent

This is one of my favorite restaurants in downtown Grand Rapids and has been for years. The interior is hip and unique, with upstairs seating overlooking the lower level. Space is intimate with small tables, but it is a whole experience and reminds me of when I dined in Barcelona. The sangria is very decent and the tapas are generally... More

This is one of our go to places if we want to celebrate a special event or are with a group of friends or people from out of town. We love the Fritos De Queso Azul (blue cheese fritters), the Ajo Al Horno which is garlic with roasted red peppers, Albondigas (local lamb, beef & chorizo meatballs, roasted vegetables and... More

This is a great place to bring out of town guest. Well actually it's a great place if your visiting or if you live in town. San Chez was the first restaurant that dared to break ground in an old building downtown GR, when it wasn't "cool" to be downtown. They have been In business over 20 years in the... More
