This is one of my favorite restaurants in downtown Grand Rapids and has been for years. The interior is hip and unique, with upstairs seating overlooking the lower level. Space is intimate with small tables, but it is a whole experience and reminds me of when I dined in Barcelona. The sangria is very decent and the tapas are generally... More

This is one of our go to places if we want to celebrate a special event or are with a group of friends or people from out of town. We love the Fritos De Queso Azul (blue cheese fritters), the Ajo Al Horno which is garlic with roasted red peppers, Albondigas (local lamb, beef & chorizo meatballs, roasted vegetables and... More

This is a great place to bring out of town guest. Well actually it's a great place if your visiting or if you live in town. San Chez was the first restaurant that dared to break ground in an old building downtown GR, when it wasn't "cool" to be downtown. They have been In business over 20 years in the... More

I've been to San Chez a number of times over the years. It is always an interesting spot to take out of towners or locals that are interested in a more unique restaurant on the eclectic side. All of the dishes I've tried have been well prepared and served with some style. The only downside to San Chez is that... More

One of the best in Grand Rapids. The food is amazing. We have Gluten issues and they have one of the best GF policies and menus. Their GF bread is warm, light and very tasty. Also has great GF options for dessert.

We ate here a few years back and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. This time not so much. The room was noisy with the waitstaff conributing to the problem. The food was so-so and overpriced. Service was OK but not attentive. This place is more for 20-somethings. We will not be back.

Three of us ordered 3 dishes each as suggested in order to share with each other. However, some of the dishes were quite large. We were all so full we actually started to groan when yet another dish appeared! Delicious food, great service. But we'll just order two dishes each next time.

The food is great and the service is amazing. The only thing I have seen in terms of changes within the last 2 months, is food portions. They have decreased the amount of tapas served per order, which makes is a very expensive place to go. I love the food, but I am not too sure about the new direction... More

The tapas variety helps when you've got a big group of people socializing. You can just order a bunch of dishes, meat, veg, vegan and so on. The staff keep the drinks flowing, the clean plates stocked and tapas for everyone. I don't have a bad thing to say. Even the bathroom was clean.

I always enjoy taking out-of-town friends to San Chez. It is a great way to try a little of this and a little of that, sharing tapas. Atmosphere unique, service timely once seated. Not a place for quiet conversations, but a fantastic place for having fun with friends. It is worth the wait to be seated. You won't be disappointed.
