Last ate here 2 yrs ago and the food is still very good. The entrance is still hard to find. Go in the front and stay left on the boardwalk, which will bring you to the entry door on the eastside of the diner. I like the free peanuts in the shell that you are given now to help you... More

It is amazing people complain about having to slow down on vacation to eat GREAT food and enjoy the atmosphere and view. I Ihave eaten here several times and will continue to come back. I don't mind if it takes a little longer to get my food, I am on vacation! I have never had a bad experience with the... More

The WestBay Diner is always busy. People talk, people come, people come back. This is NOT fast food, so go when you can relax. Your incredible meal will be made to order. You will love every bite!! Place your order right away, then browse upstairs! Kudos to Rick, Ellen, Laura and the rest of the staff!

Ellen Airgood, the noted author, owns this restaurant & makes the best baked goods in town there from scratch. The pizza & the whitefish is awesome as well. Don't know how she does it all & still has time to visit with fans of her novels like me.

This place has a cool history related to the dining car that adorns the front of the restaurant. Food very good, but we waited over an hour to get any due to their being short staffed. Seating is quite limited, but tables are supplied with lots of books to read, which helped a lot. Pizza looks amazing. Whitefish chowder was awesome.... More

We went out of our way while in the UP to eat here again this summer. What a special place with a cozy beguiling atmosphere. We got lucky and didn't have to wait. We got in about 2 pm on a weekday and were seated right away. We've never ordered anything else but the pizza here. Can't imagine not ordering... More

We loved our visit here; the pizza was delish and the atmosphere is like stepping back in time. The service was good and it is located right in the town. I would highly recommend it.

So read this entire review and you will understand what to expect at the west bay diner. We have been going to GM for years and NEVER miss going here several times while in GM. Bottom line is food is great and service can be lousy but here is why. One cook+small kitchen+small restaurant=wait or get out. Very simple. If... More

We had dinner here the 2nd night of our stay. I loved the atmosphere and the food was really good. Servers were very sweet and friendly. My pick of places to eat in Grand Marais.

Slow service due to limited space and staff, but worth the wait. At first we felt a little impatient, since we are used to immediate service, but gradually started to relax, looked through the used books that are kept table side, laughed together, and breathed easier. Just the "slow down" break that we needed on our road trip. Food was... More
