Had a fulfilling meal

While vacationing in upper peninsula we stumbled upon this place. For me Ambiance was ok but my wife liked it as it had a small bookstore. Food was really good, I had whitefish basket and my wife had there special omelette. Both where good and filling.

My wife and I found this restaurant one rainy night while camping in the U.P. of Michigan. We were wet, cold, hungry, and tired. Having spent time in the Upper Peninsula before, our food quality expectations were rather low and chose this place out of sheer desperation. Fortunately to our surprise, the West Bay Diner has more atmosphere and better... More

What a fun experience to eat in a real old fashioned diner. Breakfast was very good. The cook, owner and waitress were friendly. Place was clean and welcoming. Bought real Michigan maple syrup and a Pictured Rocks travel book.

We found this diner accidentally during our 2 week UP trip in July 2013. It had the best burger we'd ever had (buffalo burgers!) and none of the other food has ever disappointed. Rick and Ellen, the owners, are just genuine and kind people. We ended up getting married on the beach in Grand Marais last June, and the diner... More

8-24-2014. This place is unique. Old railroad car restored to original condition. Grand Marais is a quaint town of the shore of Lake Superior, off the "beaten path." So far off that "path" you have to want to go there to go there. Accessible by float plane, boat (many Canadian visitors-no customs), auto, atv, and snowmobile (winter months). Restaurant overlooks... More

Had pretty much made this a destination after reading South of Superior, delighting in Ellen Airgood's characters, reading her blog, and realizing much of her book had its' inspiration right here in this town. The expected longer wait for the food was just fine because we could explore the gift and book shop, mull through many used books, and when... More

We were in the UP for a week and we came here twice. I wish we could have come several more times. They have fresh ground coffee that is the best I've ever had from a restaurant. We ordered a pizza and it was definitely homemade, fresh and delicious. They have a good variety of food, everything from classic diner... More

My sister and I tried the whitefish and chips and the Reuben sandwich. The fish was very tasty and the Reuben was excellent. It is probably one of the best Reuben's I've ever had. We were very impressed with the service there and the quality of food we got for the price. The meals are about $10-12 from what I... More

Rude, sloppy grizzly man working behind the hoards of crap by the rear "entrance" way. The customer service skills from the older of the two young women worse than I remembered last summer. Will make the drive to Seney for good food and pleasant service!!

Cool old diner (1949) attached to old house. Good homemade type breakfasts, very generous portions. Owner very pleasant, great ambience.
