8-24-2014. This place is unique. Old railroad car restored to original condition. Grand Marais is a quaint town of the shore of Lake Superior, off the "beaten path." So far off that "path" you have to want to go there to go there. Accessible by float plane, boat (many Canadian visitors-no customs), auto, atv, and snowmobile (winter months). Restaurant overlooks... More

Had pretty much made this a destination after reading South of Superior, delighting in Ellen Airgood's characters, reading her blog, and realizing much of her book had its' inspiration right here in this town. The expected longer wait for the food was just fine because we could explore the gift and book shop, mull through many used books, and when... More

We were in the UP for a week and we came here twice. I wish we could have come several more times. They have fresh ground coffee that is the best I've ever had from a restaurant. We ordered a pizza and it was definitely homemade, fresh and delicious. They have a good variety of food, everything from classic diner... More

My sister and I tried the whitefish and chips and the Reuben sandwich. The fish was very tasty and the Reuben was excellent. It is probably one of the best Reuben's I've ever had. We were very impressed with the service there and the quality of food we got for the price. The meals are about $10-12 from what I... More

Rude, sloppy grizzly man working behind the hoards of crap by the rear "entrance" way. The customer service skills from the older of the two young women worse than I remembered last summer. Will make the drive to Seney for good food and pleasant service!!

Cool old diner (1949) attached to old house. Good homemade type breakfasts, very generous portions. Owner very pleasant, great ambience.

Good little place to eat lunch while in West Bay. The service was a little slow but the atmosphere is so different. Like an old time diner with a small book store and gift shop. The food was good -- not the best we had during our week in the UP but still a very fun place to go.

Very friendly, good food. We got whitefish and chips, which was very good! We wanted to return but they were closed when we went back the next day

We were in Grand Marais for a week, and went to the West Bay Diner at least 4 times - whether for a meal or ice cream. The staff was very friendly and accommodating and the menu is good. The food is excellent, with enough choice to make even picky eaters happy. The only "downside" is that the kitchen is... More

The service was absolutely phenomenal! We could have asked for a better mom and pop shop! Interesting history and great food!
