We loved the story of how this diner was transported to the UP and painstakingly restored; we loved meeting co-owner and author Ellen Airgood, who served us delicious, fresh whitefish baskets; and we loved the unique atmosphere and the off-the-beaten path menu items. It wasn't just a good meal; it was a charming experience.

Stopped here for breakfast while on a snowmobile trip and couldn't be more pleased! What an awesome, little find! Breakfast was made perfectly and it was delicious! Loved sitting in the back next to the wood burning stove! Also picked up some Thimbleberry jam! Don't forget to check out the books too! There are alot of them in there for... More

The West Bay Dinner is a great place to stop and have breakfast. The works are very nice and fast. The food doesn't come very fast but its the U.P. no one is in a hurry so just relax. The breakfast is a MEAL! I ordered the Philly steak omelet and it was huge! But the toast that came with... More

The West Bay Classic is amazing. You will leave stuffed if you can even finish this awesome sandwich! We like everything on the menu.

This was our second visit to this diner, built partly from a house and partly from a diner car. The menu has the usual stuff and exotic items. For example, you can order a burger made with venison, caribou, etc. Service was prompt for a small town. Don't expect the speed of a McDonald's or your big city coney island place.... More

This is a fun spot to stop anong the Lake Superior coast in Grand Marais, MI. Eat in an old-fashioned 1940's diner. there is an interesting choice of very good food.

What's to love about this place? Just about everything! We had to wait for our food to be prepared, but were fully informed that there would be a wait before we sat down. But we chatted with the owner, looked at all the various for sale food items and tchotchkes lining the shelves, enjoyed a 30 ounce chocolate milkshake and... More

We were a bit confused when we arrived. Signs told us to go in the back, and it looked more like a general store than a restaurant when we walked in. We were not greeted and had to wait a few minutes before being seated, and then waited for menus. and then waited for our orders to be taken. While... More

We tried eating at this diner a couple times on different trips to Grand Marais. We stayed long enough one time to experience the rude service but after that we could not get past the clutter, filth, and flies and had to just turn around and leave. We only went back after that because we kept thinking with all the positive... More
