We stopped by at the end of a long day of driving from Detroit. The Sugar Bowl is a true old fashioned family restaurant. The walls of lobby are covered with old photos and stories following the 95 year history. It was our first day in Michigan, so we had to try the whitefish. It was sautéed perfectly a la... More

I had the pancakes and sausage, loved the pancakes but the sausage lacked in flavor. My daughter had the french toast and bacon, it was really good as well. The staff is friendly and the decor is older but taken care of.

Returning from one of our northern Ontario adventures this year, our usual stop for lunch in the U.P. was packed to the gills so we decided to wait. We saw the Sugar Bowl and decided to give it a try. We were a little apprehensive upon walking in (a little fancier than our usual stops) but what a great experience.... More

The Sugar Bowl offers visitors to Gaylord a warm atmosphere, prompt service, and good food served in ample portions. Some of the dishes are based on Greek recipes modified for American taste. This is the ideal family restaurant. After considering newer and noisier options in Gaylord we opted for this longtime favorite of locals and were glad we did.

They have the best perches , not battered and fried, but sautéed in butter. As good as in France. Our waitress Jaime was very attentive and competent. Nice ambiance too.

When I am headed through Gaylord I like to stop at the Sugar Bowl. The restaurant is celebrating 95 years in business which is in this instance a testament to it's strengths. Very good food served by excellent staff. The draft beer selection could be a little more extensive. They should add a craft beer or two though they have... More

Late dinner on a week night. Very nice atmosphere. Food was excellent, beer selection could be better.

This was recommended by our hotel. Visiting town for the night so decided to give it a try. Upon sitting down we noticed that our glasses were very dirty with a hazy film up and down the entire glass. Looked at other table unoccupied and noticed all the glasses looked that way. When the waitress came to full our glasses... More

My husband and I were driving through Gaylord on our way home from a trip to the UP. We saw a billboard advertising the Sugar Bowl and decided to give it a try. The service was fast and friendly. My husband ordered a gyro, which he enjoyed. I ordered a knockwurst on a homemade pumpernickel roll. The roll was so... More

I have been to Gaylord several times (golfing previously) and thought this was a bowling alley. How deceiving. Based on the wallpaper and sconces, I felt more like the decor was more akin to something you'd find on an old fashioned paddle boat Vs Alpine. The fish I had, and sandwich the wife had were good. Not great but not... More
