Chose The State Room in the Kellogg Center at MSU to celebrate my Mother-in-law's 93rd birthday. The ambience is quite pleasant and the staff is friendly. On this day (a Sunday) there was one waiter and another employee (bar manager?) on duty. There were five people in our party and we made reservations in advance. Admittedly, there were not many... We went for lunch and I don't know how it is "normally" but the room was very cold the day we were there. Really too cold! The menu is interesting and the food we had was okay--but the descriptions made the food sound better than it actually turned out to be.

The State Room is inside the Kellogg Center Hotel on the campus of the Michigan State campus. It is an upscale restaurant with a refined clientele ... a place for Mom and Dad to take their student children to celebrate events like graduation. Nice menu, big portions for desserts but the service is usually very poor.

Have been eating once or twice a year at the State Room for the past 10 years. Never a disappointing meal. Menu is changed often so you don't get tired of "the same old thing."

Keep in mind the majority of staff are college students. While the restaurant tries to pass off as fine dinning I'd have to say it is average. I was rather disappointed that the server went missing after we declined wine with out meal and never asked us if we were interested in coffee or desert but such things are to... More

The food (breakfast is all I had there) was reasonably good. Usual American fare. But, the wait staff have a real attitude problem. When I changed my order oh so slightly from the routine they had (she served me water with ice and I wanted it without), the waitress became cold and unfriendly. This happened on multiple days. I guess... More

The Lansing area is not famous for its restaurants. So it is nice that you can get a really good upscale meal somewhere around here. It is located inside Kellogg Center, which is a hotel and conference center. Sometimes you have to fight crowds of sports fans, alumni groups, specialized conference goers, etc. This makes it interesting but not necessarily... More

We love the State Room, it is always our first choice, when we want a really good meal. We also have found it a wonderful place to tail gate before MSU football games. It is cheaper to have a really good meal here, then buy a hot dog combo at the stadium. They also give a discount for alumni, and... More

My 97 year old friend is planning his 98th birthday party for here. The manager personally helps to ensure it will be a success. Waitresses pay very close attention to customers' satisfaction. Soup and sandwiches are tasty, and I like them.

First ate at the State Room back in 2007 when visiting Michigan State for the first time. I am at Michigan State every 2-3 years for a conference that rotates its location and I always look forward to eating at the State Room. When we were there in May, I had the salmon and it was one of the best... More
