My husband and I tried both Lafayette and American coney on the same day. We preferred Lafayette, because they had better hot dogs and chili. Not the cleanest place and SUPER crowded. But totally lives up to the hype!

No nonsense classic Detroit coney joint. Love it as it is the best there is. Anywhere. Can't find a better coney or loose burger. Coconut cream pie is good as well. I remember when they didn't have fries...they do now but I get Bettermade chips, best chips! They have Bud or Bud light, no Strohs....too bad. Love this place!

If you're looking for the superior coney between the two side by side restaurants, go to Lafayette. I warn you - you are not there for the ambiance or decor. It looks a little dirty. But when you're busy making Detroit's best coney, who has time to clean or re-decorate? Don't let that sway you - they have the BEST... More

Iconic Detroit eating spot. Most consistant food anywhere. 2 a.m. Or 2 p.m., always great. For more fun share a table with a stranger. Save room for a doughnut or pie.

There's a long standing rivalry on who makes the best Coney dog, I thought it was better here, but call me old school. I know Adam from MVF wouldn't voice his opinion either way, but I think he would agree that Lafayette has the Coney down pat. Long live Lafayette Coney Island!

This IS the premier coney island restaurant in Detroit. It has been around forever and has a very storied history. Many, many famous people have come here to eat their famous coney dogs! I have no issue what-so-ever with the coney island hot dogs, or the restaurant either for that matter. But just to warn you, it is not your... More

tried this place for the first time with friends and it was my first "coney". I'm not a huge fan of onions so next time I'll do without or try the burger but was a cool experience. The servers were also pretty talented- one guy even had 8+ plates on his arms and shoulders.
