Almost everyone we talked to in Detroit said that we had to go to Coney Island to get a hot dog. The chilli on the dog and fries was great but in the end it was just a hot dog with onions and chilli. It was still a good dog, the service was fast and the staff was great but... More

Lafayette Coney Island is a true throwback located in downtown Detroit. I was pleasantly surprised when I bit into a REAL dog with a snap to it. The chile was savory and the bun fresh. I can't wait for another. The restaurant takes you back in time with tile floors and lots of memorabilia.

I saw on the Travel Channel the Detroit Coney Dog Challenge between American Coney Island and right next door Lafayette Coney Island. Though both were good, the American Coney Dog had a better snap and a little kick to it and definitely was my favorite. The service was friendly and funny. Try the chili cheese fries and all will be... More

For the best chili cheese fries come here. All of the other menu items seemed as worthy to other diners. That is all.

Be warned this is Very basic and unpretentious. Maybe not eat off the floor clean but clean enough. The best way to explain Lafayette is from the Saturday night live show skit with the Hamburger Hamburger Chip Chip except this is Hotdog Hotdog Fries Fries, Coke no Pepsi. Try the chilidog and fries, cheap and tasty. Lafayette Coney Island Vs... More

I frequent Lafayette Coney quite a bit. The menu is small but the food is excellent. The staff "seems" rough but they're really a bunch of good guys. They're open late and a GREAT place to stop before or after a sporting event. They also serve beer!

My family and I visited this restaurant for the first time last month. I have lived in Michigan for nearly 10 years now and I am not a fan of "Coney" anything. They have all tasted the same until now. Make sure you get the chili cheese fries — very tasty. I hate hotdogs with a casing but these were... More

Can't say it's one of the best meals I've ever had, but it's the best coney I ever had.Period. Consistently delicious dogs. Been a patron since 1968. I could go for "two up" right now. Fast service. The place is legendary.

I ate at a few coney island places while in Michigan and this was my favorite.. Aside from the tradition of this place the chili is great with raw onions a beef hotdog. Also must try the chiki fries and cheese. A must if in downtown Detroit.
