My colleague ended up with a severe diarrhoea after eating there. It might be classic and old building and such, but not any more.

Hands down the most iconic Detroit stop for visitors. Always delicious, fast and cheap. Just go here and enjoy.

It is not so much about the hot dog as it is about the 4 generation of history making that created Lafayette Coney Island. Of course, the Coney dog makes it all good. The day we went, there were snow flurry so the dog and hot French fries were perfect for the occasion. This place is one of the many... More

Detroit cannot be visited without a coney with mustard and onions many places have them all diners and breakfast stops. Dearborn has many of those places also which is just west of Detroit and near The Henry Ford Museum local family bars and cafes all have coneys some specials for 75 cents

We have this family battle here between Lafayette Coney and American Coney. These two sit side by side by realities and they battle on who's the best. So one day we took another couple and had both. American is updated in looks, but too much mustard, not enough flavor to their sauce. Lafayette is more dated and a bit seedy,... More

The hot dogs, buns and the CHILI, are AMAZING!!!! There is nothing like it. After a sports game in downtown Detroit, Red Wings, Lions or Tigers, it is a "must stop" location. Not modern or pretty, but very satisfying. Love these Coney's.

Lafayette Coney Island the best coney island in Detroit, maybe anywhere. I have tried most of the others and they do not compare. A simple menu done very well, worth driving across town for. They also serve a loose hamburger that is delightful. You can't go wrong here.

A true downtown Detroit gem. Friendly staff and great food at a very reasonable cost. You cannot get a better coney dog anywhere else.

Detroit "coneys" are soft bun, beef dog, no meet chili, onions, yellow mustard, that's it . --lafayeete is the 100 year old one, the one next to it (American?) tastes the same and has opened up in downtown vegas so you can yum their as well

This is a good old standby in the Detroit area. Many people outside of Detroit do not realize that we are famous for Coney's and you can find Coney Island places all over but Lafayette is one of the originals and best. Be prepared though as this is an old style diner and if you are expecting a linen tablecloth... More
