Atmosphere is like going back into an urban diner from decades ago. Think "Nighthawks" by Hopper. Across street from Holiday Inn and Book-Cadillac. Open very late. Service quick and efficient. Limited menu based on hot dogs. They serve beer.

I don't like hot dogs with skins so I cannot go 5 stars. However I loved the grimy atmosphere, fast service and ambiance of this Detroit icon. I should have gotten the burger but I felt at a coney place I have to coney! They have been there since 1917 so they must do it right!

Coney Dogs in Detroit are a must. We decided to visit Lafayette and American Coney to do the 'taste test' looking for the best Detroit Coney. Our group of four agreed that Lafayette was the winner. The old school atmosphere and the snarky guy behind the counter was a real treat. We sat at the counter and had a blast.... More

Did the challenge between this and American with a few friends. Vote was 2-2. I liked this one better for one reason. Their sauce was better with a little more bite. The atmosphere was way old school but the food was delivered quick with no frills. I will return next time I'm in the D.

They have some amazing classic Detroit coney dogs. The chili fries are also a must. They only have a few things on their menu but all you will want is a coney. Great if you have just a few minutes to eat because you'll have your food in about 5 minutes.

If you are visiting Lafayette, you are probably also going to visit American next door. We visited both and determined that Lafayette has the better Coney dog and the secret is the sauce. The sauce at Lafayette has a better spice profile, but the actual dogs taste very similar. These are tasty, cheap eats that you will enjoy. Thankfully, it... More

One of the best Coney dogs in the area. Detroit is the birth place of coney dogs not New York. Lol So sit back order a Coney with everything a Loose Burger or a Coney Special, wash down with a beer. Good eating.

You're either a Lafayette or an American coney lover. If you want great food and you love yourself, you'll pick Lafayette. There's no other like it in Detroit.

WONDERFUL chili ... good fries (I lik emine well done and ask for them like that) ... the place in NOT modern, they probably haven't changed much since they... More
