The absolute BEST Coney dogs in Detroit

In a city with some fantastic Coney Island Hot dogs, you must go to Lafayete. The ambiance, character and personality of the place should be enough of a reason to make the trip to downtown Detroit. But once you throw in a simple Coney Dog, fries and coke, you will know you have had a great... read more

Ok, to be fair the coney dogs were good but I really didn't think they were any better than most of the coney joints throughout the Big D. Service was fast but I was not understood by the waiter (I made a point to speak clearly to the waiter who spoke I don't know what), had to ask for a... More

A great coney island hot dog place. Cheap with no thrills. Excellent food and service. A classic to say the least. Highly recommended.

My favorite thing about this place is the totally old school interior. I felt like I was back in the 50s (or even earlier) and loved the equally simple coney and fries. Loved the sauce on the coney and the thicker fries.

The service was excellent, the atmosphere and decor was classic but the food was just ok. Not a great selection and very basic presentation. A passable luch if you're in the area but don't go out your way.

Not the classiest place by far. Small, cramped and grimy. Super fast and efficient. Great Coney Islands. Better hot dogs and sauce than American. Must try both to see. Check out thecelebrity visits at both places. Detroit history at its finest.

What a dive! If you're seeking great ambience and a friendly, spacious environment, this is not it for you. But if you want great authentic Coney Island hot dogs, come on in. Better hot dogs and sauce than American by far.

Have tried a few different coney dogs and these are the best, in my opinion. The place is so unique and rich with history and character. Great experience every time we go and we've gone a lot over the years. Please keep up the good work, serving the coneys.

Been coming to Lafayette for years. No other coneys can compare with Lafayette. I'm not sure why nothing else can even come close to this. The dog, the chilli......just perfect. Every time!

everything is the same as his brothers restaurant next door. Coneys are just as delicious but the sauce has a slightly different taste. very old building, but equally popular.
