If you have never had a coney island I would recommend a try because it is an area staple. Do not expect anything great. For out of towner's that do not know what a coney island is I would compare it to a diner with a limited menu. Do not go during the lunch hour rush unless you want to... More

This restaurant brings me back to my childhood in Scranton, PA where we had two wiener restaurants. Both of them have been in business about 100 yrs. and this place has the best coneys I have had since the ones I've eaten in Scranton, PA. Expect a long wait when sporting events are on tap for that day. Locals have... More

I honestly can't write a review of the food, because this place was so filthy I couldn't bring myself to eat. Neither could my friend, who was put off by finding her shoes stuck to the floor. My husband had to clear off a table so we could sit, and when he asked one of the staff to wipe it... More

If you are a fan of coney island hot dogs and are visiting Detroit you would be remiss not to stop by this Detroit landmark. Lafayette Coney Island and Americian Coney Island next door both claim to be the original and best in the city. I believe they were originally owned by two brothers who had a falling out due... More

I grew up in Detroit but left several years ago. Whenever I go back for a visit, I have to go the Lafayette Coney Island. It's right next door to American Coney Island but there's only one #1; Lafayette!

Have I reviewed the Lafayette before? Most times I go downtown, I'll have lunch here. The coney dogs or loose burgers are the BEST! Sorry American, but I LOVE Lafayette. I've never figured out why "coneys" don't make it, or haven't even been thought of (?), in other parts of the country. My dear departed Dad always said they oughta'... More

Heaven! Everyone around you bathed in the flattering fluorescent glow from overhead, chattering away, happy as clams. But don't mention clams, dig in to the Coneys! But get your tie off and lean over your plate, your going to drip, guaranteed! The other night, late, after the shows around town had let out, I saw folks from one of Detroit's... More

Lafayette or American? It's the age-old Detroit question. Our family have been patrons of Lafayette for generations. Without a doubt there is now better place to enjoy a Detroit coney dog and a plate of hot fries. If you're visiting Detroit, do not leave without having tired a coney dog. If you live in Detroit.... well, you should already know.... More

It's the total experience, go in the afternoon or after a meeting or a show or late at night. Stand on the street between Lafayette and the American next door and see who calls you in. Use a fork or just dig in and pick it up, they got lots of napkins.

I have tried coney dogs from many, many other restaurants and NO ONE comes close to these super snappy, delicious dogs.
