Loved this iconic Detroit staple!

I had a Coney, a Loose, a Lafayette Special, chili cheese fries, plain cheese fries, and washed it down with a Vernors. I recommend all of the above and loved sitting at the counter.

No big surprises, just delicious food, served quickly. Coneys are the staple, but they really have the best loose hamburger around. Great chop on the onions.

If you want an authentic Coney Hot Dog this is the place. I loved the waiters and counter service. I felt like I was back in the 60's or 70's. Very fun experience. We actually went next door also and had a Coney Hot Dog...........my husband wanted to compare. There are two restaurants connected in the middle of Lafayette Street.... More

First introduced by my parents years ago, Lafayette has been a favourite before Red Wings and Tigers games. In more recent years a favourite of my sons and now also of the Peanut. Last here in June and August. Now I realize a lot of debate rages over who has the best Coney Island dog, but for us Lafayette sets... More

We went here after a Tigers game to try the famed Coney Dog. It is a hot dog with chili, onions, and mustard. It was good, but I've had much better, especially Walter's Hot Dogs in Mamaroneck, NY. Fun visit, inexpensive.

I had read so many positive comments, and that place being next to my hotel (Westin Cadillac), I thought I should give it a try. The hot-dogs have nothing exceptional, but they are just acceptable. But the windows are so dirty you can't see through them, the soil hasn't been cleaned for months, and depending on where you're seated, you... More

I confess I do not like chilli or hot dogs so I was never going to like the food but I went with my grandsons who do. How is this place still open and serving food? The restaurant is dirty and the basement, where the toilets are, defy description. The man taking orders and serving food was hilariously rude. Yuck!... More

My husband and I love this place. It's not a healthy meal, but scrumptious!!!! The men who work there simply yell your order. It's filling, inexpensive and hilarious.

Grew up eating Coneys and never made the time to visit Lafayettes. It was fine to see once but way too crowded for me. The dogs were great, exactly like Senate Coney Island in the suburbs. I liked that it was still the original place inside although the building looks pretty risky to me. Ended up paying more for parking... More

You have to have a Coney at least once a year. That's what im told anyway. Not my type of food but the family enjoyed it.
