We were delighted to find the Avalon. We had wonderful cookies, mini quiches and on another day, breakfast sandwiches, along with top notch chai and mochas. It's the kind of place you want to find, a genuine neighborhood hangout with personality and good service.

Can't come back to Detroit without a stop at my favorite breakfast place in the Cass. Their pastries are good...coffee excellent...and my favorite epi's and baguettes. This casual coffee house has a city vibe and was a pioneer in this neighborhood many years ago.

We stopped here along a wheelhouse detroit bike tour on a Saturday morning and got sandwiches and fresh coffee. The iced coffee is brewed cold and is delicious and the sandwiches were fresh and satisfying. I'd bring extra cash to take a loaf of fresh bread home for dinner, as well as jams, cookies, and other goodies. Other is also... More

I stopped in here after a meal at a nearby restaurant. They had many types of bread to choose from. I decided to get a multi grain bread when to my surprise and delight was told because it was the end of the day it was buy one get one free. So I was able to get a olive loaf... More

Always something new to try at Avalon. The sea-salt and chocolate chip cookies are to die for. Awesome bread and other delectables. Definitely stop in when you are in the neighborhood.

I have been to Avalon quite a few times and have always had a wonderful experience. Their fresh-baked food is delicious, the service friendly and helpful, and to top it all of, the owners are very involved in the Detroit community/local farms/etc. Some items I've really enjoyed there - the breakfast sandwiches, challah bread, and pretty much any sweet/pastry (just... Everything is made daily from scratch, no preservatives. One of my favorite places to go to in the D! I love everything there! The monkey bread is to die for!

We liked this spot so much we went twice in one day. The cookies, PB&J and treats we all topnotch. The whole block is great for a nice stroll and it looks like they have outside seating in nice weather. Cool to see them making things onsite as well.

Avalon is a Detroit institution known for their baked goods and community involvement. All of the breads, pastries and beverages I've tried have been too notch. I wish the bakery had more places to sit and wasn't so crowded.
