I loved, loved the abidance of the restaurant/ mansion. The wait staff were awesome, the food fabulous ... I had the pan seared Scottish Salmon with finger potatoes, whipped potatoes as sides and assorted fresh sautéed mushrooms. I ate it all... perfection! The company amazing, the atmosphere...amazing . There is nothing worse than bright lighting in a restaurant. The Whitney... More

The Whitney is know for it's atmosphere and impeccable service. The food is not the best in the city and pricey in comparison to other high-end restaurants.

Went to The Whitney for a birthday celebration. Seems most guests that night were either there for celebrations or as a business expense. When I pay over $50/person I have higher expectations than if I ate @ Max & Erma’s. And since it seems that the night we went to the Whitney that most guests were there for an important... More

It had been several years since I dined at the Whitney. I always like it, but this time the menu, atmosphere, and service seemed better than usual. I had the shrimp bisque and beef Wellington. Both were excellent, but the potatoes that came with it were a bit bland. My wife had the seafood medley, which was pretty good, but... More

Definitely a a good place to celebrate a special occasion. The setting is an historic Victorian mansion. We celebrated our anniversary there while on a weekend get-a-way to Detroit. The food is very old style classic here. Beef Wellington, steaks and trout. Expect solid traditional food. Don't worry about molecular gastronomy or farm to table cuisine! We started with the... If you want to enjoy a meal in a truly unique environment, give the Whitney a try. This opulant mansion was built in about 1900 by David Whitney, a lumber baron who was once one of the wealthiest people in the nation. The dining rooms occupy the main floor of this building, and the architecture of this once private home... More

This was my first time at the Whitney. The elegance of the house converted into a restaurant was absolutely charming. Our waiter was very attentive, and helpful and suggested after our dinning experience that we explore all three levels of the house. My dinning companion and started out with soup, she had the shrimp bisque, which was creamy and had... More

This wonderful elegant home turned restaurant is one of the best in Detroit. The menu is full of delicious choices and the wait staff is excellent. Take advantage of the guided tour of the three story building and enjoy the history, the architecture, and marvel at the stained glass windows. Went with my adult sons on Mother's Day 2014 and... This was my first time at The Whitney, as I'm new to Detroit. We had a large group here for a birthday brunch. We had a private room off the front entrance. this is an old home/mansion with many rooms and floors. I don't know the history, but it's really a nice, old place. They have valet parking only. I... I have always wanted to try the Whitney. In Detroit, it symbolizes elegance and romance. So I was excited to go here for a double date during restaurant week. So first I'll tell you what I liked.... The staff was friendly. The building is beautiful and it was nice to stare off at the architecture during during, which then continued... More
