Great atmosphere, food not so much.

The Whitney home is beautiful. After we at, we walked around to check out each room and look at the stained glass. There is also a small garden out font but not in May. I had heard rave reviews of the food but my perch was a pile of mush.

Excellent 'only in a classic old city like Detroit' location. Perfect for date night. Service was good. Food was mediocre -- felt like all the dishes basically consisted of same ambiguous creamy red sauce on top of chicken/fish/risotto. But still worth a visit.

We drove to downtown Detroit expecting an authentic High Tea experience at this elderly mansion. High tea turned out to be a sort of lunch. There were only two tea choices poured by the server from a thermal pot. The sugar was in paper packets rather than in cubes. The "courses" included a lukewarm tomato basil soup and romaine salad... My husband and I went to The Whitney to celebrate his birthday. We were seated promptly but it went down hill after that. It took close to ten minutes before our server arrived and took our drink orders. Another ten minutes before the drinks arrived and when the server gave me my drink she stated that I could send it... I do Love a Good Brunch and this one met my expectations. It is an upscale fine dining buffet with an upscale price tag that was well worth the cost. This was my Mother's Day gift to my wife who has always wanted to visit the Whitney Mansion. I was honored to get an 11:00 AM reservation a week before.... More

The Whitney is a wonderfully restored restaurant in Detroit. I was very pleased that I could get reservations for Mother's Day the day before. The day was rainy and humid and low 70s. Inside the restaurant was a different story. We were seated in a back dining room with no air conditioning and not even a floor fan. The room... More

I hadn"t been the Whitney in years. The location is a spectacular mansion from days when lumber barons and others dominated Detroit. The mansion has been wonderfully maintained, and what I believe was the old ballroom is now a wonderful bar. The woodwork is alone worth a visit. We had a great dinner, marred only by an overly aggressive server... More

Easily one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Had the Filet Mignon and it was cooked to perfection, the wine and service was also amazing. Our waiter took us around the whole house after our meal. He was amazing. The house is beautiful. I cant wait to go back!!!

We had Sunday brunch at the Whitney. It has been restored and returned to its original beauty. The building is phenomenal and gorgeous. The brunch was outstanding. The food was delicious with many choices. The staff did a good job of keeping all the food replenished. The service was efficient. I noticed the staff giving the history of the home... More
