This is unpleasant to write. But so was our meal. At the suggestion of the server we had the soup/salad starter(dessert is included with this) .. the salad was room temperature, the vinaigrette was fine, nothing memorable (but no complaints). The soup was "meh" .. it needed a splash of balsamic or lemon .. but honestly, it tasted like it... More

The truth about the Whitney...Last November the first I was contacted by someone who apparently had found me on LinkedIn. Apparently, my reputation preceded me, and I was asked if I would run the kitchen of The Whitney. Being inquisitive, I asked what had happened to my predecessor Chef Jason Gardener... I was told that he was verbally abusive towards... More

The Whitney on my list for a long time so finally glad to go. It is one of the most beautiful buildings in the City and the service was impeccable. I had the Beef Wellington and my husband got the Surf and Turf. Both were delicious. We also had one of the best bottles of wine ever suggested by our... More

My wife and I went to the Whitney to celebrate our 11th anniversary. We had never been there before and everything from the server to the manager, to the atmosphere and food was better than great. Our server gave us a complimentary apetizer for our anniversary. She suggested the prime rib (Whitney Cut) and it was, as she promised, the... More

LOCATION: A magnificent 52 room mansion built by a lumber baron in 1894. Woodward Ave., Midtown, Detroit. ATMOSPHERE: The Grandeur of the Whitney feels like something out of a Hollywood movie, except it's all real. With it's Tiffany stained glass, rich woodworking, ornate ceilings, elegant decor, The Whitney is luxurious without being pretentious. I received a warm greeting from not... More

Went with my parents with a groupon deal. The place is so beautiful and breathtaking. I loved when our waitress told us the history of this mansion of Detroit. Ever intricate piece of art fro. The ceilings to the hand carved molding is Enough for anyone to visit. We had the breakfast and the eggs were to die for. Also,... More

Our server was the only wonderful thing about our dining experience. Seafood sauté was tasteless, dry, and rubbery. I ordered "Ugli Chocolate Cake" which was just a brownie-like cake with a huge mountain of mousse over it. "Flora's cut steak" looked and tasted like the sole of someone's shoe with grill marks on it. I understand that it is a... More

The service is top and also the food. I can't say anything bad about "The Whitney" other than don't have a wedding there. The Whitney has the most amazing service and the chef if one of the best. Can be pricey but worth it.

I only came here again is because my husband (a recent transplant to Michigan) really wanted to try this restaurant which is one of Detroits old Grand Dames of a mansion. Historically it's very interesting and I will say it is beautiful. But EVERY single time I come here, it's the same thing. Beautiful environment, very good (not great) food... More

My husband and I went to dinner at the Whitney last night, and had the best calamari, lobster, shrimp bisque and steak I have ever had. The staff is very courteous and provide exceptional service. Beautiful place. Very reasonable pricing for a 5* restaurant.
