This is my favorite restaurant in Detroit!

I love the ambiance, the food is outstanding and the service is great! My family goes here all the time. The lasagna is to die for. Terrible area, but totally worth it! And there's valet, so you don't really need to worry about the terrible area.

The first hint that this restaurant might really be special is when you realize where it is - tucked between a petro plant and heavy industrial factories, with the Ford Rouge River complex on the horizon. No casual drop-ins, you have to want to be here. Service is subtle and professional, from the valet to the servers. We never felt... More

Very few restaurants manage to combine the charm, quality and character which Giovanni's offers. Although this restaurant is tucked into an older industrial area, the place exudes warmth and old school charm. This was my first Detroit restaurant experience and the food and service were both outstanding. Giovanni's staff and management truly care about the romantic dinner experience and this... More

I've been passing Detroit for years going up North. We finally decided to stop to see the Detroit Museum. Checked trip advisor for Italian and went to their recommendation of Giovanni's. It could not have been better. Started with exquisitely tender-fried Calamari (with tomatoes, capers and a light sauce), followed by a spring-greens house salad (which was included) and Lasagna... Good food, great service, fine wine. Our team had a great evening. Seated in a private room for a large party and we had a great time.

I would give it 5 of 5 except I miss the old ambiance. Some years back they had a fire and in the remodel they lost some of the character and charm. The food is still top notch I am just nostalgic. Still love the place!!

I alwsays find eating at Giovanni's is like eating in your Italian grandmother's house: everything is homemade and delicious. Whether you order one of their regular menu items for a daily special he will not be disappointed. Even the pasta is homemade and the recipes are handed down from one generation to the next When you approach Giovanni's on Oakwood... More

Made a special trip to an industrial area of town based on an online story. When I walked in, I had such high expectations. Atmosphere and decor were very nice. Restaurant was not crowded but our service was not up to par. Waited a long time for service and an extremely long time for our food. There seemed to be... More
