This is a Mexican/Italian restaurant, close to Mexican town, but not part of it. The service is excellent, with a very professional waitstaff. Though it's not terribly expensive (around $20-25) for dinner entree, it has a much more refined atmosphere than the other Mexican restaurants. Rather than beer, most patrons were drinking wine, if that is any indication of the... More

A strange blended menu in a cantina style facade. We were surprised at the mostly italian menu with some latin flare. But just went with it. Great tortillas with salsa verde. No bread though like italian? Half of us did Mexican specialities. Half did Italian. The appetizers like chile rellenos and tamales were authentic and tasty. Handmade dumpling and twist... More

Another place that Metro Detroit doesn't deserve. Not to bash on the suburbs. But is a shame that an Olive Garden in the nearby suburbs has a wait to get in when a gem like this is available. The staff was great and friendly. Food was not creative or overly complex but made with great ingredients and care. Flavors are... More

It wasn't bad, but it wasnt great. We went for Valentine's Day and felt that the day was merely capitilized on by putting in more tables and having a higher priced menu. The food was good, service was okay. Our espressos ordered did not come, so we decided to leave. The restaurant looks like it needs some repair.

A few weeks ago, my husband's friend talked about going to a wonderful Italian/Mexican restaurant in Detroit. Today he saw a program on TV about Southwest Detroit and this restaurant was featured. We decided-very last minute-to try it. I called at 6:30pm to see if we needed a reservation (yes-recommended) and we made one for 7:30. Got there early and... More

Overall, it was good. Nothing more. Nothing less. Service was good, not great. We didn't get the espressos we ordered. The lighting was not good. Had a hard time reading the menus. Over a 3 course meal, some were really good, some were mediocre. It was a little cramped too. There were a couple of tables that we were glad... More

A friend who is a picky eater treated me to a surprise dining experience prior to an event at the Opera House (approx 7 minutes away). The location appears to be a neighborhood bar. Tight lipped nobody said a word. Waiting for my reaction. I'm thinking... Well they must have the best tacos or burritos. We entered the location through... More

Crammed in like sardines with a decible rating off the charts. The food? Start with a calamari and clam appetizer with 4 overcooked pieces. Out of 4 entrees 3 were just not good; cold, miniscule portions. Stay away from the "premium" margaritas @ $18.00 per.

Our first time at El Barzon, it came recommended from a co-worker. We were pleasantly surprised at how truly excellent everything was. Starting with the service - - our server was Victor, he was knowledgeable, professional and most pleasant - - we will ask for him again. The food. Oh my.....it was possibly the best meal we have ever had... More

We dined here Friday night. This is one of our favorite restaurants. Although pricey, the food is outstanding. As we paid our bill, my husband commented "worth every penny". We had the sausage appetizer, two pasta dishes and an ice cream dessert. Each item was delicious. We consider this restaurant a place to go on a special occasion. It has... More
