Good selection of entrees - some better than others

I'm giving this restaurant a very good rating because two of the three people in my party ordered the daily specials and really enjoyed them. I ordered the Veal Picatta and it was ok nothing special. The restaurant is in a very run down area but they do have a parking area in back of the... read more

I grew up in Detroit, and I go back with my wife and son from time to time to visit old haunts and see the Tigers. We wanted to eat some Mexican food in the old West Side Mexican neighborhood, and were intrigued by reviews for El Barzon and by their website. It is a microcosm of Detroit's current schizophrenia;... More

If you enjoy Mexican or Italian cuisine, El Barzon has a great menu to choose from. Being a "foodie", I found that the food was good slightly better than average (not delicate or fancy but yet better than a typical chain restaurant of similar cuisine). The cocktail/drink menu was good as well. One of the best part of the evening... More

We made this a destination before a Tiger's Game..but wish we had more time to really enjoy the ambiance of this great restaurant! With construction on most x-ways, we arrived 1/2 later than we had planned. We informed the wait staff that we were on a tight time and they were amazing! Our drinks were served quickly; our food came... More

Since I love both Mexican and Italian dining, I knew we were destined for a great experience! We felt like we were on vacation! We were seated on the patio as requested and our server was wonderful! I had a Blue Azul margarita- a great choice! We ordered some appetizers (the caprese salad and calamari-- both good choices). For our... More

This was my fist time at El Barzon. Friends suggested it after we attempted to go to Selden Standard and discovered the wait was 2 hours. While not located in the most vibrant part of Detroit, the restaurant had a pretty sizable crowd when we arrived. It was a nice night, so we wanted to sit outside on the patio,... More

Both the food and service was exceptional - I had the veal which is the best I have ever had! My gal pal had mexican and she raved about it also.

It's hard to leave El Barzon once you've been seated... it's so comfy and pleasant, nice lighting, smiling waiters, good drinks, delicious food... love being there.

I have eaten here several times. Love the atmosphere and service which are both great. The food to me is just okay, kind of lack luster and in need of more herbs, spices and flavor. Most of our friends have no complaints. Great menu selection and extensive list of wine and spirits.

My wife and I recently visited for the first time. I was drawn by the good reviews and recommendation of friends over the years. What a decrepit part of town and not easy to reach from the suburbs. Parking in the back with a watchman for some peace of mind. ordered goat tacos with corn torillas (the only choice) at... More
