Unique and wonderful!

You cannot find two restaurants in the world like this. It is in an unusual location for the quality that it delivers of both Italian and Mexican food. The staff is very friendly and the space is comfortable.

Went there with some business associates, and was very surprised to find such an elegant restaurant in this neighborhood. The restaurant is a blend of Mexican and Italian cuisine, and from what I saw, it's a very well-executed blend. Many pasta dishes with a Mexican flare, and vice versa. I had the daily lunch special, which was a type of... More

Tried out this restaurant based on friends recommendation. The combination of Italian and Mexican cuisine is very interesting as it broadens the choices for the customer. I had the seabass (whole fish) and it was one of the best fish I've ever had. We were 8 people and everybody had a blast. The restaurant location is kind of isolated but... More

The room, without any special treatment, has a certain charm to it. Our host, waiter and other help were very attentive. Our group tried the Chicken Piccata, 2 veal dishes, and a seafood dish. All were enjoyed. The Caesar Salad was great (I am picky about Caesar Salads not being too strong or too weak). The lemon dessert was absolutely... More

Trying to find good Mexican food in and around Detroit, to this point, has been in vain. Then some friends suggested El Barzon and I was not looking forward to another disappointment. Well, i was not disappointed and really enjoyed the food along with the excellent service. The Chiles Rellenos were great with their own unique take just like the... More

Civilized, delicious, A+ quality, warmly hospitable -- go no where else! Infinite variety, so skillfully/temptingly prepared, proffered with patient appreciation for our enthusiasm. If your gourmet tia grande married your italiano prozio and opened their dream restaurant in southwest Detroit, this would be their baby. We will be back . . .

You wouldn't expect to find a place like this tucked away off Michigan Avenue. The décor is excellent, the service is great and the food is amazing. I chose to dine on Italian this time around, can't wait to go back to try the Mexican. Highly recommended.

Detroit has many little gems (restaurants, events, etc.), and El Barzon is definitely one of those. My husband, sister, brother and I went here on the recommendation of a friend who grew up in the area (on a side note, the four of us grew up an hour south and had never heard of this place). When she told me... More

Atmosphere is most important to me and this place has it! Not a great neighborhood, but drive down the alley and park behind it in a guarded lot and walk into a large, beautiful, romantic patio for dinner. It appears they took the roof off an old red brick building, topped the walls with vines and flowers, added a partial... More
