There is a doughnut shop and bakery in Clare, Michigan that has been in constant operation since 1896. This foundation business was within weeks of closing when the members of the Clare Police Department came to the rescue. All of them. That's right, all nine members of the local police department banded together to save this historic business.Dubbed "Cops and Doughnuts," the business boasts handmade confections of all types. Join us for a warm fresh doughnut and a steaming cup of Cops Coffee while you enjoy the police decor and friendly, and very safe, atmosphere. Come and see the new store in Clare that everyone is talking about.Since opening as Cops & Doughnuts our business has expanded in to other adjoining store fronts allowing us to ad the "Cop Shop" our apparel and souvenir shop. And the "Traffic Stop Diner" featuring many American Diner favorites.

Lots of variety of baked goods: doughnuts, cookies, breads, pies, etc. Had 3 sections for browsing: one for souvenir clothing, a dining area for other food not just doughnuts and then the bakery. We thought the prices were a little high but for the novelty of shopping there, it was acceptable. Plus many of the treats were huge.

These donuts are the bomb!!! I highly recommend the vanilla frosted long john with the custard filling. Delicious!!!! The apple fritters are big enough to feed two people. The center of the store is the bakery with a café on one side and sitting areas. The staff is friendly and patient.

For several months, my husband and I have driven past the numerous billboards advertising Cops & Doughnuts on our way to visit family and always say, "We should check it out." But we've never done it 'til this afternoon. It was raining as we drove through downtown Clare and decided that this was the perfect day to pull off the... More

I have never eaten at the restaurant, so this pertains only to the very pricey pastries . I avoid gluten for various health reasons, but was happy when a worker told me they had 2 gluten free options...no bake cookies in 2 flavors and rice crispy treats. I have bought these treats on several occasions and was excited today to... More

Police patches adorn the walls of the gift shop/munching side of the bakery. The bakery counter has many, many options to satisfy your sweet tooth. We split a cinnamon roll and brought home a ginormous oatmeal cream pie (sandwich) for the rest of our family to try. We sat on the cute, bright and cheery snack shop side to enjoy... More

Purchased the Amish pies, cream bread and the salt raised bread. All very good! I will have to stop again the next trip downstate.

One of the best bakeries we have visited with great pastry choices and very moderate pricing. The bakery counter is situated in between a room with seating and a gift shop/police memorabilia display to one side, and a lunch counter with seating to the other side. There, light lunches other than pastries may be ordered. All in all, a highly... More

What a pleasant surprise. This place blew me away. This is a bakery on steroids. Don't come here if you are on a diet. Unbelievable choices and quality.
