There is a doughnut shop and bakery in Clare, Michigan that has been in constant operation since 1896. This foundation business was within weeks of closing when the members of the Clare Police Department came to the rescue. All of them. That's right, all nine members of the local police department banded together to save this historic business.Dubbed "Cops and Doughnuts," the business boasts handmade confections of all types. Join us for a warm fresh doughnut and a steaming cup of Cops Coffee while you enjoy the police decor and friendly, and very safe, atmosphere. Come and see the new store in Clare that everyone is talking about.Since opening as Cops & Doughnuts our business has expanded in to other adjoining store fronts allowing us to ad the "Cop Shop" our apparel and souvenir shop. And the "Traffic Stop Diner" featuring many American Diner favorites.

Dough-not miss this place.

Police patches adorn the walls of the gift shop/munching side of the bakery. The bakery counter has many, many options to satisfy your sweet tooth. We split a cinnamon roll and brought home a ginormous oatmeal cream pie (sandwich) for the rest of our family to try. We sat on the cute, bright and... read more

One of the best bakeries we have visited with great pastry choices and very moderate pricing. The bakery counter is situated in between a room with seating and a gift shop/police memorabilia display to one side, and a lunch counter with seating to the other side. There, light lunches other than pastries may be ordered. All in all, a highly... More

What a pleasant surprise. This place blew me away. This is a bakery on steroids. Don't come here if you are on a diet. Unbelievable choices and quality.

We stopped on a very busy day! Clare Days! I want to stop back when I can actually see what was in the display case. I had a cream filled Long John! I ate the whole thing, but it easily could have fed 2 people (or 3?). Very popular place. I would like to try the restaurant part some time.

the place smells great inside. The "poonchkee" donuts for Fat tuesday are very heavy and over filled with fillings. I made a big mess. Made me feel 5 pounds heavier!

The dishes at Cops and Doughnuts are few but unique and tasty. Their coleslaw is amazing, their true potato fries are wonderful. I recommend the pulled pork or burgers. Of course you can't leave without trying their doughnuts. Their day old cabinet has a decent selection for a low price.
