It's a rather small space tucked into the corner of a strip mall, and if the predominantly Japanese clientele is any indication, it's authentic. You get huge bowls of Ramen noodles with various additional meats and veggies as well as all meat (beef) or chicken/egg/pork dishes stir fried with onions etc., and a big bowl of rice. The beef I... If you ever watched The Ramen Girl with Brittany Murphy in it, you're going to want to try a Japanese Noodle restaurant. If you're like me, you can't afford to go to Japan....so this is the next best thing. Matsuchan has pretty good ramen.

If you don't mind being bloated, go for it. But if you are a foodie that likes the enhancement of natural flavors, forget about it.

First visit there today during lunch, and it is every bit as good as others have already posted here. It is small and busy, but I was able to get a seat immediately. Quick service, too. My lunch entree was $8 and included soup, salad, meat and rice bowl -- a great value! It feels far more Japanese than American,... More

If you didn't know it was there you would miss it! This little place is the real deal. Food is good, not a total "WOW", but definitely someplace I frequent. The portion sizes are big and you get your money's worth. The staff is very friendly and considerate; they work hard to make sure you are well taken care of.... More

I don't live anywhere near Michigan....but everytime I fly into Detroit, I have to satisfy my craving and visit Matsuchan! Needless to say I'm jealous of the locals and wish we had a ramen shop like this back home. The pork ramen soup is my all-time favorite, but you really can't go wrong with any of their other types ramen.... More

The bowls are enormous here. I am a big eater and barely finished mine. Most patrons were getting to-go boxes. The food is fresh and yummy. Sauce and spice selections are available on the table to liven things up. You know you are in an authentic place when the specials on the wall are listed only in Japanese characters. Odd... More

This tiny restaurant will definitely surprise you. It is located in a small strip mall and looks very unassuming. A little rough even. Do not be afraid to go in! It seats about 20, barely. The chef is front and center from the dining area so you can see most of what is happening. The decor is not much to... More

I lived in Japan for 7 years and Matsuchan is one of those rare places that make you feel that you're back in Japan. Everything on the menu is a guaranteed winner. The decor is simple, but very typical of a real ramen shop in Japan. I appreciate that the decor isn't overly touristy and tacky. Lunch hours are busy... More

The pork-based broth always leave me wanting more. The place is small but I usually don't have to wait too long to get seated. I usually order the combo deal which comes with a small bowl of clear soup / miso soup / soy sauce soup (pick one) ramen, a small plate of Japanese-style fried rice (yummy) and three pieces... More
