Excellent service and ambiance

The menu is small, with several Cajun influences. We tried the Cornish hen and chicken piccata. Both were very good and the service was very attentive. We had the chocolate cake with raspberry sauce, which was excellent. Nice setting and atmosphere.

I love this place! The menu changes and there's always fresh fish available! Wednesday night is 1/2 off draft beers and full slab of Asian Ribs! Thursday they have $1.50 fresh shucked OYSTERS!!!!!! Fried Raw char grilled and Rockefeller. Keep in mind oysters are ALWAYS on the menu. The food has a Cajun New Orleans flair to it!!! Absolutely flavorful!... More

The decor was quite charming and surprising - walls covered in old masters redone in wood. Cajun influence to the menu with successful results. All our choices were quite good.

We attended a pre-wedding event here and were excited to dine at The Ideal Place. The decor and concept of this restaurant are on par with the area. They have a great selection of specialty drinks as well as a nice variety of beer, wine and liquor. The front of house staff was attentive and polite which was appreciated. Unfortunately,... More

We had a great meal at a nice place - one might say, Ideal! We sat at the bar and had a couple of fresh mixed green salads, two nice entrees - huge grilled pork chop for me and grilled salmon for Cathie, complete with starch and veggies, and we split a dessert, three scoops of Palazzolo's artisan gelato (they... After a fun experience at the 12 Corners Winery, Linda, I, and a couple friends swung over to downtown Benton Harbor for dinner at The Ideal Place. When we first drove down the street, the facade was hardly noticeable, but when we walked through the door, we felt the friendly vibe of this upscale Michigan eatery. The design, both modern... Party of seven, great food. One lady had a severely overcooked steak. Typically she did not want to complain, and said, OH, Its OK. The server noticed the mistake saying, That is not medium rare or even near and apologized profusely. When the check came, everything she had, including drinks and appetizers was removed from the bill. That gesture was... More

First, the food was absolutely delicious. Hadn't eaten all day, was ready to fix that, and was not disappointed. Started with the gumbo, which was modestly spicy, but very flavorful. The beet salad was great, with loads of feta cheese and a zesty balsamic dressing. I ordered the pork saltimbocca, and it was very nice, with slightly thick slices of... More

From the moment we walked in, the bartendar was lively, and more than accomodating. Once our party began to arrive we moved to a table with a group of around 12. We ordered a variety of appetizers to pass around. Everyting was excellent. I am not a sea food fan, but I went back for more! Everyones meal looked amazing.... More

The first time I visited, I admit I wasn't very impressed with the food. Service was good and the atmosphere is hip and date-worthy, but I had the BBQ shrimp and thought they were unpleasantly bitter (overcooked? Too much hoppy beer in the sauce?). However, I gave The Ideal Place another try with some friends, and everything was pretty darn... More
