Best option for fine dining up-island

In general, you need to be prepared for a bit of sticker shock when you go to Martha's Vineyard. This restaurant is no exception, so I'm not going to say that you will get good value for your money here, but you will get good food without having to deal with the crowds in Edgartown and Oak Bluffs... read more

This is an update on an earlier review, simply one to indicate that things are continuing at a high level. The menu remains excellent and the portions satisfying; service is very good. We find the porch quieter than the main room. Burgers remain a favorite with the family; the ricotta appetizer is excellent, enough for three or four people by... More

We have driven by this place for years without stopping. Now we are kicking ourselves for missing out on some awesome meals. The biggest draw here is the incredible freshness of the food. The salads were unbelievable. There is something about the taste of local fresh veggies that cannot be beat. We had the pea shoot salad, pea soup with... More

If this isn't the best restaurant on the Vineyard, it will soon be. Great menu. Excellent wine list. Superb service. We enjoyed the place in every way.

We just had our fourth trip in the last six weeks to State Road last night. We haven't been disappointed yet. Our favorite appetizer is the ricotta which comes with wonderful homemade crisps and a half of a roasted garlic. I learned last night that the key to making it so yummy is adding heavy cream at the very end.... More

This was our first visit to State Road. We arrived on Sunday morning, Fathers Day, amidst a heavy downpour at 8:30 AM. Just a few seats open, but we were immediately welcomed and ushered in from the rain to the warmth within. Nice touch. Upon reviewing the menu, we ordered fresh squeezed orange juice, flat whites, and a few pastries... More

Everything here is fantastic, but it's worth a special trip just for the baked goods. The Mama's Bun is a brioche roll filled with almond paste and drizzled with crunchy caramel. We took one look at the pecan pie on the counter and bought the whole thing to take home for dinner. This was one of the great pies of... More

We had one of the best meals ever at State Road. The service was attentive and our server, Paul was pleasant and so informative taking time to review in detail the various menu options. We opted to share House Ricotta with roast garlic and crostini. The portion was large enough to serve 4 even though we were only 3. I... More

it's hard to find good dining on the Vineyard that doesn't bankrupt you. This place is kind of precious but the food is very fresh, local and delicious. I recommend it for a splurge.

This new restaurant has it all - great ambiance (whoever decorated it deserves kudos) and wonderful drink and meal selections (a must have: the lobster beignet).
